Having a minor issue with NPC pathing

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone more well-versed in building than me could help with a small but irritating problem I'm having. I've got a desk that an NPC sits behind:

When he gets up from it, I want him to walk following the green arrow, but what he actually does is follow the red arrow, doing a little loop away from the desk first and then turning back on himself which looks weird. It does work if I move the chair backwards away from the desk (too far back for him to be sitting at the desk) or so far to its right that the whole chair is clear of the desk so that he's sitting in the aisle (also no good). I've tried moving the chair to its right enough to have the marker clear of the desk (further right than in the screenshot) and I've even tried removing the desk's collision and extending the navmesh underneath it. Neither worked. Can anyone give me any possible solutions or have I just got to put up with his silly detour?

Thanks.

Check the navmesh - you could make some smaller triangles along where the green would be, moving the other navmesh over, then Ctrl+P all these navmeshes along the green, which will make them preferred path so the NPC should follow it.

Thanks! I'll try that. My last method of yelling "Just walk forwards ffs!" certainly wasn't working.

Well, you always have to try that method first, because sometimes... It works. ;)
