AH1
Hello, I wasn't sure where to post this, since it is DLC related, but also might be mod related, so I'm posting this here to be safe. I've bolded the important details for those who are just browsing the thread. I'm attempting to play the official DLC Operation Anchorage, but when I attempt to enter Bailey's Crosstown Metro to start the quest, the game always crashes during or shortly after the loading screen (before the black screen clears). This is known to happen from time to time at certain buggy locations, such as Tenpenny Tower, but usually this problem is solvable by COCing into the cell. I tried to COC into Bailey's, and I did succeed, however, the cell was...weird. For one, certain sections of the walls were missing, as were areas of the ground, allowing me to fall through into oblivion as if I had clipping off. Furthermore, about 20 feet or so in any direction from me, I was able to see out of the cell into the gray oblivion that surrounds it. Usually, I can stay in the cell for a minute or two before it crashes, but it always crashes. Okay, so the meshes are obviously not loading right. I thought that it might be a bad install, so I reinstalled it. That didn't work. Perhaps it is my DLC copy that is the problem, so I borrowed a friend's. That didn't work. Okay, so the install is fine. Perhaps it is a mod. (Right now I'm at work, so I can post a mod list later if necessary.) I disabled any mod that in any way affects Operation Anchorage or any weapon, armor, etc in it. No luck. I opened FO3Edit and checked, and there are no mod conflicts that it is detecting either. I'm somewhat convinced this must be a bug or a corruption in the game, and I'm hoping someone can direct me to the answer to fix this as I'd really like to start the DLC. Any help that could be given would be greatly appreciated.
TheFourthHorse
Sounds messy… I think for anyone to help we'll need to see your list of active mods. Edited February 24, 2011 by TheFourthHorse
AH1
I figured it out. The problem was not the mod, but a corrupted save game. Even though I do not use Autosave or Quicksave (a lesson I learned in Oblivion), something must have corrupted the game I had been playing off of. I reloaded an older game and used COC to directly transport right into the cell to test it. No crash that time, although I did receive a crashing problem once I made it out of the tunnel, but before I went into the Outcast Outpost. To fix that, I just went back into Bailey's, then purged my cell buffer with the console, and exited back into the Wasteland, which fixed it. I don't believe it was related to the first crash problem. Although I did not figure out what caused the corruption, I did manage to work around it. proconsu1
Although I did not figure out what caused the corruption, I did manage to work around it. Well done, good on ya. Next time, though, you should post your load order (export from FOMM and cut and paste it). There are some mods that have known issues (and fixes) with official DLCs....actually a huge number of them. It's always better to get to the root cause after all, or the problem may just come back and bite you in an ever more sensitive spot next time. That's just my opinion, though, no need to go spreading it around.
