I think Dead Money is a Bioshock rip-off [Spoiler]

Massive spoiler ahead.

- Strange creatures clad in full body sealed leather outfits.

- A ghost resort town built by an eccentric that went wrong. The somewhat pleasant setting is contrasted with decay.

- This eccentric was obssesed with a beautiful woman in the show bussiness. Ryan anyone?

- Sonic devices planted in certain areas you must disable via hacking or destroy in order to advance. In Bioshock, you have turrets.

- Automated vending machines and holographic vendors. You can even unlock new items from the machines via codes. In Bioshock, you hack them for the same purpose.

- You find a lot of currency laying around and less in containers.

- A deranged entertainer wearing a tuxedo can be your companion. He's a relic of the original cast.

Where are my plasmids?? XD

I don't know man, I can see the similarities, but I think there are enough differences that I wouldn't call it a rip-off. Does it follow the same basic plot line? Are the characters and situations in the story similar or identical? In Bioshock, do you have a bomb collar strapped to your neck and you are made to depend on three other characters for your well being, lives tied together so vitally?

I think that for as long as history has been recorded, there is proof that there is nothing new under the Sun. Every story has been done before in some fashion or another. It's just what happens because we are all taking part in the same Human Experience, and will be.... at least until the aliens arrive and genetically modify us with their DNA

Of course, the fact that both games are designed with a 50's theme doesn't help, or the fact that Bioshock has very similar gameplay to New Vegas, or the fact that they have exactly the same theme (lively Vegas-like resort town that's now dark, decaying and full of insane former residents)... :whistling:

All this talk about Dead Money makes me glad I won't buy it. I can use the ten dollars to add to my Starbucks gold card: much more enjoyable.

I just wanted to discuss my personal experience in a friendly way. Sorry if I gave the impression of wanting to trash the expansion. It's just the similarities gave me a Deja Vu feeling.

Ps. Can anyone mod an Electro Bolt or Cyclone Trap into New Vegas?

bringing into question the entire assessment

I really don't want to start a fight, sincerely. But I have to say I don't agree with your opinion, at all. Besides, I put a proper spoiler tag. I'm going back to my home forum, you won't get me banned.

Edit: DarkeWolf moved the thread. Sorry if I offended someone.

Does it have a BioShock-esque appearance? A bit. Is it like BioShock? Absolutely not!

Look. The DLC is a measly $9 - hardly anything to gripe about. It is a continuance of the basic Courier storyline and about Veronica's "significant other" - Christine. Depending on how you finish the DLC, there are clues as to what to expect in future DLCs - namely a showdown (c'mon everyone, start singing Big Iron....) with the schmuck who got you that "easy" delivery job with the Platinum Chip. Am going back through it again just to clean out the Ghosts and see what else the villa has to offer. The Sierra Madre portion was a complete ball-buster - died at least a dozen times from the stinkin' holos.

One thing I did notice. The game didn't crash ONCE while playing DM - soon as I was expelled back to the Mojave - the crashes resumed. Go fig.

Was that ever actually said? I constantly wanted to ask her if her partner was actually Veronica or even talk with Elijah about Veronica but the option never appeared in the slightest. That may actually be one of the most disappointing parts of the DLC for me.

Neither was I able to talk about my trip to Veronica herself... nor get a peep out of her when we went to the bunker and she left me behind... but that I can somewhat understand as Felicia Day would have needed to return for the new voice work.

The whole thing sorta just took place in a bubble despite the ties, which reduced the DLC's impact on me.
