The Latest Patch

Just to add my 2 cents. After Steam patched my game, it will run for 1-2 minutes, then crash. Unless I leave it, and watch the idle animations. Then it can run for I don't know how long :excl:

I think it might have to do with a combination of NVSE and 4Gb enabler, together with the patch. Unfortunately I don't have a backup of the .exe and .dll files, from when my game was running for hours without a glitch. So I'll probably have to backup my saves and make a clean install. And start loading the mods little by little

@Grinded Stone: Wondering what you're doing here. Of course we are all entitled to have our own opinion of things. But if I -for one- didn't mod this otherwise excellent game, I would not be reading/writing here. But just play the vanila game and have a good time with that. And less problems no doubt

But my game was running smoothly before, WITH mods. And then my game gets patched to cope with a DLC that I haven't even bought. That is one thing that makes me angry. Somebody or something messing with my computer without asking me >:(

Have been working -HARD  Instead of re-installing, I started to uncheck all my mods, deleting everything I knew needed NVSE. I deleted all NVSE files from the main folder. Then I loaded a save. Apart from the guy being stark naked (Breezes body) and missing his PipBoy (Readius) and all other equipment, the game ran smoothly. I took a run from GS almost to Primm with no problem. Then I started a new guy up from scratch at Doc Mitchell. Loaded all my mods (No NVSE unfortunately) and the game is running smoothly

One thing though. I do not know which version the patched game will show. My version -after all my fooling around- is showing 1.2.0.314

wow, such a wide variety of results. Interesting. Don't know what the hell it means, but it's interesting.

you find it interesting but i die alittle inside every time those damn big red "!" appear.

Well, that should be a mod related problem. You'll have to check your load order and/or installing orde

its not the missing meshes are at total random. if im lucky instead of big "!" i get the messed up textures you get when you dont have ArchiveInvalidation. my game runs perfect for about 5 mins till it fails to load meshes and the "!" appear again. ill be uninstalling and reinstalling NV today.

I see. http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/mellow.gif I get a lot of random missing "everything" at times. Just yesterday, the hotel at Novac just wasn't there. That kind of thing has been going on since the beginning for me, though. Happens a lot with roads, radscorpions hiding under the asphalt, etc. The hotel was a new one, though.

what you describe was happening months ago

appears to be a flaw in the basic game engine

and has been spotted in Oblivion too.

Yeah, the "disappearing" since the beginning, but the crashes no (for me at least). I've always been really surprised how stable my NV game has been (until recently, of course). Overall I experience way more FO3 crashes than NV crashes, but since this last patch it seems to have equaled out. http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/turned.gif

what's "the latest patch" though? the dead money patch, or was there another more recently(which nvse wouldn't work with, so i doubt)? it would certainly explain my sudden crashes whenever i exit most city or interior cells, but those only started within the passed day or so, i hadn't had any CTD's until recently. interestingly, i noticed if i just walk around and do things outside of cities or interiors, i get absolutely no random CTD's. i'll start a completely new file and see if anything changes, but i doubt it.

Dead Money played fine, no crashes whatsoever.

But in the Wasteland, the game crashed every 2-3 minutes.

After 6-7 retries it was stable again.

Even though the patch was a few MB it destroyed the game.

EDIT: Seems like me and WizardOfAtlantis got the exact same fate. New Vegas was running a LOT better (pre-patch) than FO3.

And after the patch it's almost the same as FO3. aka Crashing everywhere. With a few exceptions.

Same with the disappearing map pieces around Novac, and in random Wasteland areas.

Fallout New Vegas was patched (as in an update was downloaded via Steam) right when Dead Money (which is, in perhaps more current terminology?...a DLC) came out, so they are two different things.

As far as terminology goes (and correct me if I'm wrong anyone), nowadays (and around here, can't say for other gaming forums or areas of the internet), a patch refers to an update to the game itself, dlc is used for big official downloadable additions, and plugins are mods. Back around Morrowind-time, I think plugins and patches were synonyms even in this community but they've been "stabilized" into different identities.
