RadoGamer
Hey there guys just finished building a new system strictly for gaming. I will be moving my Steam installation to the new system without reinstallation which I know how to do that's no problem. My question centers around a very heavily modded Skyrim (120) along with SKSE not to mention, Oblivion/OBSE (standalone Oblivion/Moroblivion) Fallout 3 and Fallout Vegas. In the move, obviously the data folders will be moved along with Steam. I was wondering if there is a way to move the NMM along with this move so as not to disrupt the modifications or am I SOL and have to uninstall and reinstall the mods? Any suggestions either way would be appreciated. Thanks
soupdragon1234
Install NMM on the new machine, copy over the contents of the existing "NMM's mod's folder" and "NMM's Install logs folder" from the old machine to the new machine's folders. NMM > Plugins tab > Top of window > Open folders Left hand side of same window, below green tick > Export the current load order > on new machine's NMM > Import current load order n.b. you may need to reinstall SKSE to get it working correctly, if skyUI throws out errors reinstall that too
obobski
+1 to what soupdragon1234 said. I will add that IME I've successfully just re-installed FOMM or Wrye on the "new machine" without doing any additional steps - just point it at the Steam/game directory and it worked. I would still have the load order exported and available just to be double-sure. Also remember to move your save games - they are not kept within the Steam folder, they're kept within My Documents/My Games/Skyrim (or FO3 or FNV etc)/Saves - again I've never had a problem drag'and'dropping those from machine to machine as long as the game install is the same (IOW move the install via Steam). For FO3 you may also have to bother with GFWL (e.g. disabling it again if you don't want it, or updating/patching it to use it if you do want it). RadoGamer
Excellent Soupdragon I completely appreciate the info. I just got back from a trip to Flagstaff and installed the last component to the new system (Graphics Card) now begins the move! Your info is great! I kind of figured SKSE would need reinstall and most likely SkyUI but this helps a lot! Obobski I know bout the save games but the reminder is appreciated (never hurts to be reminded in a situation like this). GFWL will probably be a pain since I have FO3 modded and playing through it. WooHoo this is going to be fun!! Just a like a quest! Thanks again guys!!
obobski
If you have the DLCs "thru" GFWL you can actually just move them from the GFWL folder into the Fallout 3/Data folder (just like a mod - remember to grab their bsas too!) and the saves do exist locally (I forget where, but they aren't in the typical My Games/Fallout 3/Saves thing - probably some other GFWL sub-folder) so those can be moved "out" of GFWL and then it can be sunk into the ocean with the GFWL-disabler. AFAIK the newest version of the GFWL-disabler will automate this migration too. IME removing GFWL helps stability some too (I've seen the "you just got [achievement]" and other info pop-up thing crash the game, at least this happened to me back when FO3 was new). RadoGamer
Thanks Obobski, I found them in a subfolder in Saves named after my Live moniker. I was wondering if I could just transfer my key to the Steam version then move the installation to the Steam folder but not too sure if it's possible to use GFWL saves with Steam I've heard it doesn't work. Anyhow so far so good I moved ESO last night and with a few tweeks it worked perfectly. I'm in the process of moving Origin and Uplay and games. Just completed Origin and it's updating. This is all a very daunting task but It seems to be working well. I tested ESO last night, the card in my new system is a Radeon R7 370p 47 with 4 gig of GDDR5, the game looked completely 3d. I can't wait to finish the new system will be strictly for gaming. My other system will remain in use as my web design and mod design computer. Thanks for all your help it's much appreciated. I start the Steam/NMM move tonight. Best,J (Update) Steam will not accept any GFWL game codes so it looks like I'm going to have to take the other route. I may disable it but then I risk losing all the saves I have, I've finished FO3 GotY just playing DLC's now. Guess it's time to start over! obobski
With Origin I've found that if a game doesn't work, the "check for problems" (right click and its one of the options) usually fixes it - it seems to work better than Steam's "verify files" feature at least. Granted I only have maybe 3-4 games in Origin, and they're all from EA, so maybe its just that Origin and EA games work well together, like Half-Life 2 and Steam. The GFWL activation code probably won't work on Steam, but I would be surprised if saves generated by the DVD (GFWL) edition of Fallout 3 couldn't be read by the Steam edition of Fallout 3 (you'd ofc have to buy the game twice) - should be the same thing assuming all the mods/patches/DLC/etc line-up properly. I don't own a second copy of the game on Steam to test and confirm this though. I have no idea how GFWL-downloaded/purchased DLCs would align or not align with Steam though. What I'd probably say is if you want to move to Steam, get a Steam copy that aligns with the DLCs you have thru GFWL, install it via Steam, and then just copy your mods and savegames over as needed. As far as running GFWL and Steam together at once - I do not suggest it, even if it is technically a valid configuration. BioShock 2 "works" that way, and it crashes and locks-up very often for me (the overlays seem to conflict with each other). It isn't as seamless as say, UPlay + Steam where you "launch" the game in Steam, and it just fires up UPlay in the background and then the game is good to go. RadoGamer
That makes sense, I was able to move Dragon Age Inquisition and it tested good, played for a while and no issues. I have Far Cry 4 any suggestions on how to make that move would be apprecaited. I have information on how to move the Uplay client and it's games but I'm a bit concerned with FC4 considering it's connection to both clients. As far as FO3 GotY, I'm going to use the GFWL disable mod on the new installation. I checked the mod and it seems he's got it working pretty well with the latest updates. The mod is able to bring the DLC's forward out of the GFWL dark hole and it also will bring the game saves out from under the Live folder. Anyway I really appreciate you taking the time, so far so good with Origin. After I'm done with it, I'm going to do Uplay and the Gamestop app next then Steam which is the biggest one of the bunch 54 games 27 installed, and last but not least the NMM, it's going to be a long night and day. Anyhow thanks again!
obobski
No idea on FarCry whatsoever - maybe someone else has experience with that and will comment. I've installed UPlay a time or two but always for different games, so I'm not very familiar with it overall. I just know it seems to be relatively stable and stays mostly out of the way of Steam. On FO3 - the GFWL disabler (the base dll) has worked properly since it was released (I honestly don't remember exactly when, I know I was using it by the time Operation Anchorage was released though, so its not a "new" mod by any means); the automated file moving features are newer though (I re-downloaded it to see recently) - it saves a bit of digging but otherwise it looks like the same mod with some more polish (I remember the original was basically just a dll that you had to drop into the right folder). Good luck with everything, and update on what you learn about UPlay if you can.
