webdiver
hi everyone, i m facing a game lagged problem. Every time when i kill some foes, their blood smoke-effect will cause the game lagged. And also when every time my game character facing the Oblivion Gate, the lighting effect of Oblivion Gate will caused the game lagged. i know that is because my graphic card were not powerful enough, but is there any method to TURN OFF those "special effect"? Thank you!

Switch
Indeed, I believe this has been covered... I'll move this to Technical Support anyway.
Guest Tessera
I bet 10 bucks that it's a RADEON card. It's the classic, number one complaint about Oblivion from ATI owners.

Guest Tessera
i bet a simple yes or no would have been more help for this guy. I bet simple answers to tech questions will generally be the wrong answers. We haven't been told what his setup is or anything else except that his game is malfunctioning whenever specs are in the picture. There is a way to shut specular lighting off, yes... in the Oblivion.ini file. The thing is, it won't take care of the problem around Oblivion gates and if he's having a video hardware issue, it won't help him at all to give a "simple yes or no answer." Why..? Because there isn't one. Feel free to correct me, if you think I'm in error here. I leave it in your capable hands.
webdiver
thanks guys, i had google through the Technical Support forum, looks like i should wait and upgrade to the latest "ATI display driver"or... perhaps i should upgrade to a new nVidia card... And yes, Tessera, here is your 10 bucks... ;D Nah, keep yer 10 bucks my friend, I knew it was going to be a RADEON. It's an all-too-common problem and it has to do with the way most ATI drivers handle Shader Model 3.0 and a few other quirks. The ATI beta driver for Oblivion should fix it up for most people. See if that helps, before dumping a wad of cash on a new nVidia. Well, unless you're just looking to upgrade, anyway.
