Morrowindf and Oblivion

I stopped playing Oblivion a week or two ago, and re-loaded Morrowind - there's a lot of "back story" in Morrowind that is not really explained in Oblivion.

However, I have finished Morrowind (I used the GOTY), now I'm about to begin Oblivion again, hopefully with a better understanding of the game. After that - well we'll see.

Morrowind is a great game. I feel like there is more lore and more little stories and quests and details in it than Oblivion. I don't really feel like the lore of Morrowind matches the lore of Oblivion. I have not played Arena and Daggerfall, but I have heard people say that their lore doesn't match that of the other games very well. I guess you sort of have to take each game as if it stood alone and try not to think about the other games.

One person proposed that Bethesda ditch the Elder Scrolls universe but keep the game engine and have the next game be in a brand new fantasy world with no baggage of twisted and conflicting lore. But Skyrim has been announced, so maybe Skyrim should be the last Elder Scrolls game before they start fresh.

I loved Morrowind and had high hopes for Oblivion, a little disappointed tho. Skyrim to me is right in the middle of both of the others. Lore and graphics, gameplay and detail are what I like about these games. Beth can't help making TES games. Yet something outside of the Fallout and Elder Scroll sphere would be a healthy change, I think. Their new engine has lot of potential. More games in a different genre would be beneficial to Beth and us fans of Beth. One thing I would like to see would be the backward time in the games, playing at the "begin" of a series. You could literally do whatever you want and not get in trouble.
