Septim741 Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 Anybody remember Asteroids? From Atari? I play it all the time on a really old computer. I think that the highest score I ever got was around 80,000. What was your highest score? What comments do you have on Asteroids?

But it is an awesome game and it never gets old. :D

Rhydderch Hael Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Spending eternity breaking rocks— reminds me of prison. ;) (not that I've been—it simply reminds me of)
WilliamSea Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 I spent more quarters in Astroids Deluxe than any other game. I could play for 40 minutes on one quarter. The shields were my favorite.
TheTerminator2004 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 I occasionly play Kasteroids if I'm bored, which is a KDE port of the original. I'ts stilla fun game to play, even after all these years...
Stampede Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 I have an issue of Retro Gamer at my office which details the record score in Asteroids. The guy spent an entire weekend at a store playing it. (Arranged it with the store owners.) Photos and such were taken and he signed the machine. A big gaming expo tried to track him down recently without avail to hand him some sort of lifetime achievement award. They could not find him and began putting out wanted ads. The record holders friend contacted them and sadly informed them that the Asteroids champ had died a few years ago trying to rescue his cat off a neighbours third story balcony!! The award was given to his family instead.
ninja_lord666 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Life Time Achievement award for...Asteroids? Wow...
LHammonds Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 The poor bloke died while trying to rescue an ungrateful cat? Dang...I sure don't want to go out like that. When the Atari 2600 first came out, I got Asteroids and played it a LOT. I can't remember how long I played (on a single game) but I think I started on a Friday night, went the entire night, on thru Saturday morning and had so many lives racked up that I was able to take a break and leave the game running to take a shower and eat, then still play the game some more until my hands were too sore and wore out to play any more. Yes, it required mastery of playing either hand. I was so proud of the score that I wrote it down on a piece of paper with a marker. Had some other high score written down too. It must have been about 25 years ago...wow...When I moved into my current home 2 years ago, I stumbled upon that high-score paper but I don't remember the number but I know it's still here somewhere. ;) LHammonds
