chitt
Hi, since I got a new computer recently, I thought it would be a good idea to finally re-install FO3. Only problem now is that I the game "Stops working" according to windows as soon as I start it up from FOMM. All the mods I have installed now, except for a few, which I've tried disabling to no avail, are ones I've used in the past and have never encountered any problems. I've used BOSS, FO3edit tells me that "editing is disabled" or something to that effect. This whole process has made me remember why I was hesitant to start modding in the first place, at times, it can seem like a whole lot more work than it's worth. But I don't want to give up just yet however. Anyway, any help is appreciated as I've got only basic knowledge of troubleshooting with modding problems. I've uploaded my load order taken from FOMM after it's been sorted by BOSS. Also, as far as I know, all the mods are the latest versions. I'm also on x64 bit windows 7 if that helps any. I'm having the same problems. I've tried disabling anything that would possibly conflict. Nothing has worked. I mean, I added mods sure, but I was playing as soon as just a couple hours ago. So...maybe it's FOMM?
proconsu1
I am gonna give you the short version now, cuz I'm pressed for time at the mo', but will go into detail on anything you need more help with whenever you say the word: 1. FOSE - at least two of your mods require this, so you need to make sure you have the latest version, it is installed correctly and if not working from FOMM try launching from FOSE_loader instead. 2. Your load order needs some attention, I think. Either run FOMM's updater to get a new masterlist (which may crash FOMM) then resort your load order, or get and install BOSS and run that instead (recommended). 3. It is generally a bad idea to run two weather mods at the same time, cuz their scripts tend to squish each other mercilessly. Pick one and get rid of the other. (I'd go with whichever has more endorsements here on the Nexus). 4. Last I checked Rogue Hallow had warned people not to use the RH_Ironsights plugin for Broken Steel due to a bug. You might double check that at the download page here on the Nexus to know if it has been fixed or not, and if so whether the version you have is the fixed one. 5. You desperately need a merged patch. The best method would be to get and install WryeFlash and make a bashed patch. But if that is too intimidating or you just don't wanna go to that much trouble, then get and use FO3edit instead. Again, don't hesitate to ask if you want more details on any of this stuff, cuz I know I left out many details you might not figure out on your own. chitt
Okay, so a bit of an update. I installed and made a bashed patch with wyreflash. I also disabled all RH_ironsights, EVE, Project Beauty related esp's and esm's as they seem to possibly be the culprit's, though with my limited knowledge on this subject, they might not be. I can actually get to the second "reel" on the startup before it crashes, but it always crashes there now. I've also disabled the Enhanced weather mod. Also, I've ran BOSS, and had FOSE installed already.
proconsu1
OK, this is truly jacked up. At that point in the loadup sequence not much is even running yet. The mod files are loading in, yes, but the only one whose contents are even being processed is DarnUI, and that one tends to be rock solid. Double check the version on DarnUI anyway (it should be a11), even though I doubt that is the problem. What I think is called for now, considering how perfectly repeatable this crash is proving to be, is to download and install Procmon. You can get it here: Process Monitor v2.94 This will monitor the entire loading process and log it for you, so we can see exactly what is happening at the point where it crashes. You will need to run it at least 3 times to be sure, however. Then compare the resulting logs from each run, with particular attention to the last dozen or so lines. If, for example, all runs show that the last file being accessed before every crash is thismodisfullofbugs.esp, then you know which mod to remove. So deactivate the offending mod, uninstall it, rebuild your merged patch and test it again.
chitt
Okay so I've managed to be able to actually see all the intro screens upon startup, an the game doesn't insta-crash like it used to. I've disabled Ironsights, EVE, and found some missing files in Project Beauty, so I've downloaded that. The problem I'm encountering now is that I cannot skip the intro screens and no text shows up (New Game, Load, Settings). I'll try that program out, procounsul, and come back with any findings. chitt
Sorry about the double post, but I finally got it to work! What I ended up doing was re-installing FO3 entirely, this time into a different place than the Program Files folder. As I was putting my mods back in I noticed that the FOIP for EVE and FWE wasn't at the latest versions of both mods. So for now I've held off on activating EVE. I also arranged my load order a bit, and eureka! I also didn't use the DC interiors mod. But it works now, though, so I am happy. Thanks for the help, too, procounsul. chitt
And sorry about this triple post, but I promise it'll be the last. I forgot to mention that because I'm running windows sidebar on windows 7, I needed to change the properties of my FOMM exe to disable desktop composition. That's what was making my text in the main menu not appear.
proconsu1
Ahh, good catch. You are actually the first person I have come across in quite a while who doesn't detest the sidebar. I wonder if that means I am leading a sheltered, geeky life....

It's nice to know the weather and other things without having to go to a webpage or anything.
