I have a script bake dilema

Recommended Posts

So I released V14 final of Legacy the other day and 4000+ people have downloaded and installed it and have come to find out that somehow (don't ask me how because I'm baffled by it) a Hearthfire's script got into my package and it's overwriting the updated USKP version. Well anyone who starts a game on V14 of legacy will have a script baked in that is incompatible with USKP's changes to the hearthfire's main quest handler.

So... I tell folks to delete the script but of course this gem of a game won't update the script content on the save game, so I am wondering how I can resolve this issue short of tell 4000 people they need to start again :(

My only thought is to release a fix patch that attaches the USKP version of the script to the quest but renames it and instruct people on using the save game script cleaner to remove the vanilla records and thread and such to clean it up.

Any ideas?

What script is this we're talking about here?

Also, a bit of advice, but don't ever let the CK package your archive. These are the kinds of mistakes it makes :P

I don't think it's that bigger issue to fix.

Inconvenient maybe, maybe a dodgy way to fix it..

Repack your bsa as without the script

Extract the USKP version of the script.

Tell users to use your new bsa.

Put the loose USKP extracted pex in their scripts follder load the game and do a save.

Then remove the loose script.

The baked old script should be replaced with the baked new version the script?

It depends on what exactly got done.

You wouldn't need to go through the hassle you just listed either. If it was a simple matter of disposing of the bad script, the game would fix itself based on proper load order. It sounds like this isn't the case though and there may be nothing that can be done about it.

Sorry it took a bit to get back

The script in question is BYOH_QF_BYOHHouseBuilding_0100305D And it seems that merely deleting the script works fine for anyone who started their character when USKP was loaded. Anyone who started a character without the USKP loaded ends up with a bunch of property fill errors and an inability to buy lumber from mills. They can still get it via stewards but no purchasing at the mill works for them. It is a much smaller issue than I initially feared, but it's unfortunate still nonetheless. Thanks for you help.
