A Horse

I don't know if it can ever be made for New Vegas, but seriously! This game is basically a western and we don't have a single horse?!

 

Even some kind of mutated horse... FO3 had Giddyup Buttercup after all. I don't think I can understand why this never crossed anyone's mind when they began making this game.

I know right? Huge oversight. Invalidfate is working on one, but until a talented rigger/skinner makes the bod it can't be shared :(

 

I'v got a Yao Guai mod for a mount though see my post above

We're gonna have horses soon.

 

That's what I was hoping when I saw invalidfates post, so I asked him about it. But we're not really any closer because we don't have the resources for the horse (skeleton etc). What you are seeing is probably a oblivion resource so it can't be distributed. But a talented rigger could make all this happen if he/she was willing to put in the time. Invalidfate said the rest (scripting etc) was trivial.

 

I'm running a beta of a ported versioin of rideable creatures but theres no horses, just Yao Guai, brahmin etc. And I'v only got it working in first person, not 3rd. But the Yao Guai is pretty dang fast and you can shoot, fast travel etc while mounted.

That short video looks really good. And includes a really good looking combat from horseback animation. :thumbsup:

 

There is a lot more to do than just having a PC ride a horse. We also need a mounting animation, a dismounting animation, A way for NPCs & companions to use horses and a 'steer horse with mouse' control.

 

Then we will need idle animations for the horses, damage and healing for the horses, wild or feral horses and how about Ghoul horses? :tongue:

 

Then, if horses are a part of the game, There will be a whole new class of horse mods someone will have to add stables in all of the towns, functional hitching posts, watering troughs, saddles, bridles paddocks etc. :biggrin:

Okay, maybe he could use some custom-meshes from an Oblivion mod?

 

I don't think there are any oblivion custom meshes that don't rely on the vanilla oblivion resources. But if some talented soul steps up and makes the animations, skeleton etc we would be in business. I'v wanted a horse in NV since the day the game was announced. Can't wait

Sunny Smiles has been asking me for a horse from day one. If she don't get a horse soon....well, I probably don't have tell any of you.....something bad might happen.

The only thing I'm any good at is skinning. I fiddled around with textures in my Sims 2 days and with Dance Player (a Korean music player that has 3D figures dancing to specific songs).

 

When I first made this topic, I had suggested using the Giddyup Buttercup from Fallout 3, but quickly edited that out since I read that we're not allowed to make requests that involve porting.

 

It's a real shame though. That video looks so promising. My eyes lit up when I saw it. If we were allowed to use things from Oblivion, Fallout would have a whole lot more added to it. Bows and arrows would've been a pretty cool and obvious choice of weaponry in Fallout since the ammo could be reused like Oblivion. I'm still a bit irritated that when I throw a knife and hit a target in New Vegas, the knife is gone forever.
