New Female Body Texture Mod in the Works

I've created brand new textures from a texture pack I downloaded some time ago for Corwyn's Fantasy Figures. I forget who the author was (they never put their name in the readme either), so I can't release these just yet. I don't want to release them anyway, not until I have an idea of what else needs to be done to them, cuz quite frankly, they're rather shod-ass right now.

I've got a few SS to show off what I'm thinking about releasing, but not yet.

Let me know what you think.

Guest Tessera

Some of the finer features of her anatomy could use a bit more realism, but overall..?

I think it's fine. For that body type, I prefer what you have so far to Corwyn's.

The skin on yours is better, for one thing. So are most of the ratios.

You might try enhancing her ribcage slightly, so her body looks less tubular.

No... I mean her ribs, not her boobs... LOL.

Even if you don't, she still looks fine.

Thnx. But like I said this is still a WIP, and I have no plans on releasing it just yet. I want communinty feedback first before I decide what to do next. I do appreciate your comments on this Tessera, since you do seem to have quite an extensive knowledge of texturing from what I've read of the (many) posts of yours so far.

This actually is more of an enhancement of a texture pack that's already been uploaded on TESSource. The original tex had NO pubic hair whatsoever, which quite frankly seems very, VERY out of place to me in this game. I'll admit right now that I do prefer women to have at least a bit of something covering their genitals, and not to look like a prepubescent girl. It averts my eyes quite a bit.

As for her ribs, I can see now that it doesn't look as realistic as I'd like it to be. Thnx for pointin that out to me Tessera, and I will enhance it some. I won't make the body look emaciated, tho, I like my women to have some meat on their bones ;) . The belly button is a tad small, but other than that everything else looks (almost) right. I can't be perfect tho, perfection is an illusion that most people strive for but can never, EVER achieve.

Anyhoo, I do appreciate any and ALL community feedback. Constructive criticism is the best medicine, eh?

EDIT: Oh yes, about that mod I mentioned, it's this mod, "Textures for Corwyn's Fantasy Figure" by Torbold. A link to the mod can be found here. Unfortunately, I can't email him, so there's no way to get in contact him and let him know about my intentions.

OK, I've got a few new SS to show off. The tex is still WIP, but it's a little better than before. Still needs quite a bit more work, tho. As always, any and ALL community feedback is greatly appreciated.

I've noticed with most mods like this there is always a visible line where the neck and body meet. Theres a slight misshape to the hips too. Other than that you got really good tex replace mod there, im looking forward to using it in the future. I agree with you too I'd rather have some meat on the bones. ;D

That, I think, comes from the inaccuracy of the modeller using Max or some other 3D mesh creation software program. That really erks me, but what can you do, eh? And that slight mishape was supposed to be her hip bones, but Corwyn seems to have placed that a little too high. If I knew even half of how to edit meshes, I'd do it myself, but unfortunately I don't know beans about any of this stuff.

As for the meat, I like 'em nice and meaty. NOT fat, but maybe just a little fat where it counts (her hips, thighs, and breasts, a nice badonkadonk, and, well, you get the picture... ;) ). A full-figured woman is becoming quite rare these days, which specifically why I detest Eshme's bodies. 'Nuff said.

Well, besides the preference question, hair is HARD to do in 3d without very resource-demanding plugins (that you of course can't use in Oblivion). It's bad enough with head hair, but at least that has a solid form and you don't care about the skin underneath. But facial/body hair is just a pain (even Og the very manly barbarian knows how to shave!). With low-poly game models, it's very obvious that it's just painted on the surface, not a three-dimensional object. So even if I might agree with you on that issue, I'd be very tempted to just leave it off and avoid the lack of realism.

With your textures, I'd suggest adding more contrast, and try and fake some shadows.

As for general comments, the awful lighting of Oblivion's graphics engine makes it hard to comment (yay for massively overdone spec bloom and blinding white skin!). And you said you don't have any modeling skill/software, so I won't comment on the proportion issues. Anyway:

1) The neck line is an issue. And it looks like it's not just a geometry thing, I'd take a look at your textures in that area, try to match the head color better.

2) They're very low-resolution overall. If Oblivion can support it, I'd use much bigger textures. Does Oblivion support texture layering/mix maps? If it does and you don't want huge files for the whole body, you could use higher-resolution detail textures, with layering/transparency to put them on top of the base color. It's most obvious with the pixelated breasts, but you could definitely use higher resolutions elsewhere. Also, with the previously mentioned hair, it's really noticeable with the high contrast in that area.

3) Your bump map is way too high. This is a very suble thing, outside of muscle/bone curves, skin shouldn't really have any bump mapping. Especially not with a primitive engine like Oblivion's, where you can't get the subtle lighting effects which would make bump/specular maps useful on skin.

4) Your colors look kind of off. It's really hard to tell with Oblivion's poor lighting washing out the base color, but it looks like your skin color is too white. Your average adventurer type would be spending a lot of time outside, and that means a pretty dark tan. Tan lines for armor and stuff are optional, of course.

5) It looks like her collar bones should be a bit more defined, there should be some clear shadows in that area. Looks like the same with the shoulders and back.

Thnx for your input, Peregrine, and I will take all these into consideration. I also don't like Oblivion's poorly done lighting system (even Doom 3's lighting system is FAR better than this  !). I also agree that trying to do ANY body hair is quite difficult to do (as of TODAY's low-poly rendering specs; maybe in the next few years it MIGHT be a possibility, who knows). Anyway, for my rebuttle:

1)I know - like I said this is still WIP, and I need feedback so I'll know what to adjust and make better.

2)I also know they're low-rez - quite simply, my GPU can (technically) handle texs up to 2048x2048 px (perhaps maybe up to 4096x4096 px, but's that's pushin' it), but with regards to image loading times, my CPU can't (it's only a 2.6 GHz  machine for Pete's sake!).

3)Oh, well, I thought it might be a good idea, considering Doom 3 does use simliar bumpmapping (tho perhaps not to the extent I chose to go). Anyway, I'll fix it when the time comes. Altho, it does give the player a sense that she's feeling a tad chilly because she's nekkid :P .

4)Skin colour too white? Hmm, kinda doesn't look it to me, cuz she's actually a Nord, and Nords aren't supposed to be darkly tanned, remember.

5)Well, when the mesh you're working with doesn't have those things to begin with, it's a little hard to try and imply those things on a tex. I agree that the shoulder blades should be more defined, but I can't really do much about her collarbone; I'll try, but it could be difficult.

Anyway, I really do appreciate your feedback, Peregrine. I'll take all this into consideration and hopefully, if and when it looks right, I'll post some more SS.

After looking over the feedback this WIP has received so far, I've finally gotten the new texture close to what I want. I've got a few new SS to show, but this STILL needs quite bit more work. If any of you are wondering, I do intend to edit the tex for both Dark Elf and Orc textures.
