Daledge
Well I'm new to modding and I've been learning how to, but everytime I go to save a mod, (at the moment, only test mods) it won't let me and just says 'invalid directory'. Any help is much appreciated.
David Brasher
I am not sure about this specific problem, but if you have Windows Vista or Windows 7 you are going to have problems. If you do use either one of those operating systems, you will need to reinstall Oblivion and the CS to a directory outside Program Files. (The security in there is so tight that mods are viewed as malware and attacked by the operating system.) For example: you could make a new directory like C:\Games\Oblivion. adamhun
I have windows 7 and it works well in the Program Files directory ... try running it with administrator privileges.
Daledge
Yes, I've Windows 7. I think I've tried the administrator suggestion but I'll give it another shot.. And instead of re-installing would it be possible to just copy and paste everything to a different place?
Telyn
If you have a DVD version, you should reinstall from the DVD. Copy/paste can lead to broken registry entries. It does work for some people but you'd be taking a risk. If you have a Steam version, you can do this:https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?p_faqid=231My thanks to bben for posting that link. It tells how to move the Steam install without having to redownload or reinstall the game.

Telyn
This article will help you reinstall cleanly and also keep all your mods. Don't skip any steps, though. http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240 That should give you a fresh game.

Your mods and everything else will be fine. But be careful and read the article Telyn linked.
Daledge
Okay, thanks for all the help, I appreciate it. But any recommendations on a new directory?
Daledge
I'm afraid I have another problem.. The guide says: 1. Put the oblivion cd in the computer2. Just exit out of the oblivion launcher that pops up3. Go to my computer4. Right click the disk drive the the cd is in (mine is ;E) and click on Explore5. click on setup.exe But when I right click on the disk drive, 'explore' doesn't come up. Any Ideas? Like I said I'm using Windows 7 and as far as I know Bben uses Windows Vista?
