ninjafish
For the Joining at the start of the game, Daveth (one of the Warden recruits) dies during the Joining. Now, while his background is shady and he's more or less a thief, I find his total dedication to wanting the darkspawn defeated rather inspiring. Ser Jory is nothing more than a coward as a knight. While I believe Jory deserved to die, picking his own self-being over protecting others (Which basically goes against what knights do), I really wish Daveth would have lived, even if he dies in the battle of Ostagar. His death just doesn't seem to do justice. Anyone else feel the same?
Codifer
I would have preferred Daveth had lived and Alistair died. There is no justice. Edited March 20, 2011 by Codifer
Sync182
Yeah, I'd have like Daveth to live and play a bigger part in the game. Oh, well.
Isensol
Huh, figured I was the only one let down by his death that quickly. His whole back round screams to me as a character that has much more depth and his strong belief in old wives tales ex. witch of the wilds, and so forth was humorous and made me wish he was a possible companion. This coupled with his logic and attitude was just great for a companion he to me was the more serious human Zevran :3 Though it'd be cool if someone got a mod up and running where he survives the joining and goes to the battle and supposedly dies for you to find him and recruit him in the return to Ostagar DLC :D i would get it in a heartbeat. Lawlder
While I definitely prefer traveling alone with Alistair over Warden/Alistair/Daveth or Warden/Daveth adventures, he did seem like a good guy although he would have needed the Mandatory Shady Past Tragedies and Trauma all the other companions have. A random pickpocket wouldn't make much of a long term companion.
Qistina
The main character who should die...lols I just think...what if the main character don't survive? So "your journey ends here..."
brokenergy
After much thought, nah. He's too arrogant to be a GW (at least in my opinion). Though his intentions are good, he wouldn't have been a great GW.

Though his intentions are good, he wouldn't have been a great GW. I would say he's more cocky than arrogant. Apparently quite a few Grey Wardens have had shady backgrounds. It certainly is no barrier in the Dwarf Commoner origin. For all we know, Duncan himself may have been a mass murderer in his former life. In daveth's favor, he at least had his set on straight about what it meant to be a Grey Warden. I could see him fitting Duncan's "anything to win" attitude quite well. As a companion NPC, I imagine that Daveth would end up being a lot like a strictly hetero Zevran. I like Zev, but ONE of them is plenty. Although it'd be interesting to see how Daveth and Morrigan got along over the long haul. I doubt he'd try to flirt with HER! Given his fear of magic, it may have even complicated romances with female mage PCs.

Kind of knew that he was a red-shirt in my first walk through.
billyro
I thought that only the fat guy would have died. (Jory (not entirely fat (just fat faced))) Daveth seemed like a betrayer to me, but I thought he would have lived. I must admit, it was pretty cool when he made those funny faces after he drank the blood... Oh, he's dead.
