ben24xo
I think a illiterate mod would be cool. Unless your player charter had training you couldn't read txt, learn skills, gain shouts, progress quest unless you paid a scholar to read it to you or you paid for training how to read. Could even go so far as have different languages Dragon, dwemmer, elven. I mod you could only read books when sitting down. Think about it, most books and txt in skyrim are at least 3 4 10 pages would you really be able to learn that skill or that journal unless you really had to sit down and poor over it with out worries of draugr coming up to you. Lastly a mod that the weight of shield determines how quickly you can raise it. Light shield come up quick and are out of way fast for counter strike where heavy shields lend themselves to more tank like fighting style. Even dual parry would be fastest but offer lest protection. Those are my ideas if you like them, think they suck or are working o. Your own mod feel free to comment, use idea whatever. The Skyrim community is the best! ElioraArin
On the subject of needing to sit down to pore over a book - even a mod that includes an option to pick up a book without automatically reading it so that you can choose how & when your character reads it would be fantastic - I currently use the console to give me a copy of books I find in the world so that my character can read them realistically later on, & it's very annoying having to do this! megageeklizzy
I would love to see the return of the language skills from Arena/Daggerfall. If I remember correctly, you could learn to speak Daedric, Spriggan, Centaurian, Impish, Harpy, Giantish, Orcish(despite the fact that orcs do not have their own language lore-wise), Nymph, and Dragonish(they didn't call it Dovahzul yet, but "Dragonish" sounds kind of funny to me). I honestly never got far enough to see the effects firsthand. That said, I do think it would be interesting if you couldn't read books. It would probably be possible to make a duplicate of the child gift system. Instead of child clothes that you can't wear, you would give books that you can't read. Of course, you would also have to give the books to someone who could read them(probably not a child, unless there are lore reasons why that particular child would know how to read - maybe the privileged kids, like Balgruuf's son and daughter). I believe that, in medieval times, most people couldn't read. I think maybe reading should have the same limitations as fast travelling or waiting. You shouldn't be able to read when there's an enemy swinging a sword at your head, but you should be able to read while standing when you're safe. Maybe limit it to only being able to read while inside a building where you aren't trespassing. I believe there is a mod that makes time pass while you read, and it may already incorporate constraints on when you can read. I don't know. EDIT: I just looked it up, and there weren't actually skills in Arena, so the language skills were just in Daggerfall. I had to correct myself because of OCD.
