THAT is your problem. Now go and read the installation requirements properly.

Hi,

I'm a nebie who's a complete novice where mods are concerned, but I solved the problem of misbehaving mods as I set up OOO on top of the vanilla version. It was lengthy and tiresome, but it worked.

As I installed one of the mods, I saved the data folder elsewhere and then tested the game from the start. First up, two of the Flora mods even prevented the game from starting at all.

Having the emperor rabbit on each time was tedious, but I found it was the only way to get everything right, and to enable me to backpedal if an installation didn't work.

The problems I encountered were items of no value (I tested that in the very first screen on the tan items in that image). Then one of the NPCs disappeared except for her armour. Next, having worked right through to exit from the sewers, the landscape was purple and made up of rectangular blocks.

However after several restarts (several = about thirty) everything seems to be fine. One shock, (though the OOO blurb says to expect it because the hostile NPCs aren't levelled) is to suddenly be confronted by a bandit way above my level who promptly kills me with a single blow, or three at the most.

But that's OK. It makes for a more realistic experience, but the remedy is to save frequently and don't rely on the autosave. That seems to be clunky. If a situaltion is completely untenable I can always go back one save, and avoid the confrontation.

Initially I didn't like the game as it became rather repetitious and limited in terms of items available plus all those zero value items. IMO everything should have a value, but OOO has added a whole bunch of new stuff including items made of gold and only a very few items are actualy valueless.

I also previously thought the absence of gold items was rather unrealistic, and so too items such as tan goods, planters and ceramics without a value. All fixed now yhanks to OOO though.

All in all, with OOO installed (up to OOO 1.33) a good game has become a superb game, and those graphics are breathtaking. Lastly, a question. I see hundreds of individual mods are available, and I'm tempted to add a few.

How well/easily do extra small mods work in company with the OOO series? I'd hate to break the game at this point after so mch effort, though I could of course use the same method I used while installing all the OOO parts.

:-)

Yes, with OOO installed, you are basically playing a different game altogether.

There is no definitive list of compatible mods. What you should always be aware of is that OOO adds NPCs, creatures, monsters, factions to almost all parts of Tamriel outside of cities, and many dungeons have OOO quests added and almost all have more powerful foes. Indeed, OOO has added many NEW dungeons, so anything that alters landscape or dungeons you should check for OOO compatibility or available patches. Also, OOO incorporates many many armour and weapon mods, so some you will not even have to install, because they are already available in OOO.

As you have already found out, survival should not be taken for granted if you play on anything above 'easy'. Not giving anything away, but many ruins will NOT be survivable until later levels.

Have fun.

Slightly off topic (sorry) but it has to do with OOO. It seems to be running OK but I have yet to get too far into it, but is there a problem with nirnroot?

Since I installed OOO, all Nirnroot are replaced by the big yellow object saying it is missing a texture or mesh.
