Deus Ex

It's strange to see topics related to all popular games, but not DX.

For me, it's the best game of all time (Many magazines called DX like that).

The animation is bad, it has many bugs (but they make world exploring much more interesting, aren't they? :D), but overall gameplay and

perfect linear/sandbox combination (and aug'n skill system, of cource) makes Deux Ex a great game.

Have you played it? And how?

What do you think about upcoming DX: Human Revolution?

I love Deus Ex and usually play it stealthy, with sunglasses on during night operations and with no unnecessary kills.

Sadly, judging from certain previews Human Revolution looks like arse. Regenerating health, some sort of hamfisted 3rd person "cover" system, every usable object clearly highlighted so you won't have to spend time on actually exploring the levels et.c.

I'll be picking it up anyway.

You know what I thing a game needs? Constant health. Regenerating is unrealistic, and health bar is HORRIBLY unrealistic.

So what I'm talking, is that if you take a shot to the arm, you lose a bit of health, and cant get it back until the end of the mission for example.

And a headshot should be an instant kill, of course.

Like the injury system on COC: Dark Corners of the Earth?

So far the best injury system I know is in a military simulator ArmA 2

If you are shot in the leg you can only crawl

If you are shot arm you can barely aim

If you are shot in a stomach and you are lucky you have to have someone get you and perform first aid

Only medics can heal arms/legs but anyone can heal if your criticly would

I played Deus Ex both 1 and 2..but it was some time ago...dont remember what the outcome of my play was sadly.

As for Deus Ex 3...i saw a few vids some dayes ago and im not impressed..i wasnt able to hold till the vid played to the end and just closed it.

The highligthing objects just somehow dont fit in there...its like they think players are stupid and cant find things out on their own

Overall the game design and the atmosphere feel very "plastic", but i guess thats becouse things are highlighted.
I actually think the new Deus Ex looks excellent, and I'm sure they'll add some way of modding the game to remove the itty bitty nuances. It looks closer to Deus Ex than Invisble War, which is a step in the right direction, at least.

Yes, I'm not so sceptic, too. I see that you may use some creativity to complete missions.
New health system isn't that bad, really. I saw 2-3 bullets eating half of your hp-bar. I thinks it is too complex to implement DX1 wounding system because you will neeed to use tech kits tj repair your arms'n other augs and medkits to heal organic parts.
And it would be hard to make such system to look adequate in the game - imagine dialogue scene where Adam lies on the floor without legs.

Highlighting breaks all the immersion, really.

Modding tools would have course be a godsend, but on how many occasions has Square Enix released mod tools for their previous games?

Never, they frown on community improvement mods. They allow improvements, but will contact you if you edit, improve assets. But that was a long time ago. :whistling:
