Rhydderch Hael
Just exactly how did the Legion rule out the Dark Brotherhood in the Emperor's assassination? Is there an unwritten rule within the Brotherhood where the Night Mother simply ignores any pleas calling for the death of the Dragonborn?
Dezedor
That is the only question (of those i know so far) i've never been able to find and answer on. My guess is that the emperial legion is beliving that they have destroyed the Dark Brotherhood. This is confirmed by the several people claiming that the dark brotherhood is'nt bigger problem than Beggars. (God i proved them wrong!) well anyway, not sure but i quess that is the reason they are saying it.
Malkav33
Maybe Lucien showed up in during the night in Ocato's chamber and said:"Listen, we didn't take any contracts on the Emperor, it'll be creating trouble, and business is better when everything's calm..." Or maybe someone has heard that "For Lord Dagon" battlecry and reasoned out that a DB assassin would have shouted "for Sithis"...

It might been the reason. Dont think so though.
Bored Scotsman
Baurus was a witness, so he could have told them about the battlecry and the summoned armor. Besides, the Dark Brotherhood wouldn't have sent so many men after the emperor. They'd most likely only send one, albeit experienced, assassin. blaze234
I think regardless if the Dark Brotherhood is working in secret without the consent of the empire (since when did murderers need consent?), they realized that if they did assassinate the emperor, it would cause chaos. There would be a full-out investigation, the finding of the sanctuaries Etc. Mainly, it's bad for business to be known as the people who killed the Emperor and caused an entire civilization to be thrown into...despair, for a lack of a better word. Abramul
(Sorry for the double post. I killed the Anti-Jiub a while later.)Just exactly how did the Legion rule out the Dark Brotherhood in the Emperor's assassination? Is there an unwritten rule within the Brotherhood where the Night Mother simply ignores any pleas calling for the death of the Dragonborn? The nature of the attack, the multiple assassins, the ceremonial robes, the summoned weapons and armor -- it all speaks of something...ritualistic. I've seen the Dark Brotherhood's handiwork more times than I care to remember, and this just doesn't fit their usual pattern. I guess that's what worries me. We're not dealing with the unknown, and I'll be damned if I know how to handle it. *Reasonable to assume this much would be clear within a month of the assassination. However, a specific date cannot be reasonably inferred.
