I Want to be a Voice Actor

Well, here's the thing. I'm pretty much a nervous wreck at work all the time, and one of my only outlets is walking down the street practicing different 'miniscenes' with different voices. I don't really like my job anyway. Sometimes I go under a bridge and sit by the train tracks in self loathing practising more scenes with different voices, and sometimes people gather around and ask me to improv a story with the voices. I've found that this helps at work, these stories that I do with the different voices and personalities. The problem is I don't have any access to a studio, and I can never find a private space, whatnot with my g/f or my drunk buddy always being on my couch. I just feel that these voices I do are worth something, even if that worth is measured in downloads. I'm too nervous all the time to submit anything to places like Pixar or Dreamworks, so I wanted to offer something here. If anybody needs voices for a mod, if my anxiety doesn't catch up I'd be glad to do vice acting. Sorry I don't have anything recorded now, like i said there's always somebody around and I'm too anxious to kick my best friend out of my house. My g/f would be scared by the strange voices in the middle of night, and probably call the cops or something but I'll try to escape to the woods with my laptop and read scripts in voices (I have a 16 hr batter, I have a Haswell v3 chipset). Doing these things really helps my anxiety at work, and doing these mods would probably help my relationship with my g/f. PM me if you need anything.

p.s. anxious af typing this, might not log on till I get less anxious

First of all just calm down dude, nothing to be shy about here. There is nothing wrong about such a hobby.

I guess you shy about making making yourself look silly? Understandable, but if you want to be a voice actor for reals, you have to tackle it sooner or later. Fleeing to the woods just won't do. If you wanted to work in a team later on, where more people will stare at your face. It will be a big problem. You buddy is drunk so he will not be a problem. There are also other places, the roof, the basement, your deaf grandparents house or an empty place in your work. There are strangers came you and thought your voice acting was good, try to recall that every time you feel a bit worried.

Your gf is your gf, I'm sure she will not pack her stuff when you tell her that sometimes, you are practicing voice acting. Try reading in different voices for a good crowd of kids, doing it for fun for your gf and buddy.

You don't need a studio. You just need: a quiet place, a usb microphone (20-200.) and a bob filter. That what most people are using.

Studios are definitely not required to get into voice acting. Yes, you get a better quality capture, but for the average listener in a gaming environment, simply having a decent mic and removing background noise is usually sufficient. Frankly, most of us modders are happy as long as it sounds like a real person talking as opposed to, say, a radio transmission from the moon, circa 1969. For equipment, a decent mic with a pop filter is fine. If there's a lot of background noise, you can always rig up some small-scale soundproofing. This guy's got a nice little tutorial if you're not feeling creative enough to design your own: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTeUeRxAS7M

As for getting a simple quiet space to record--if your girlfriend gets weirded out by something like that, you need a new girlfriend. If your drunk friend gets weirded out, you need to get him more drunk. You'll probably feel pretty stupid when people can hear you practising, but eventually you realize that nobody sees it that way but you. When you focus on getting into character, you forget that people are watching, you forget that you have an ego outside your character, and it stops being a problem. It's a process every actor has to go through, and from what I've seen in myself and fellow actors, it's a lot like ripping off a band-aid: Daunting, but it only lasts as long as you drag it out.
