Belfaborac
Just developed a bizarre problem I've never seen before. When I enter the game it freezes for 15-20 seconds and then turns into a cartoonish or watercolour effect and everything becomes extremely sluggish. Haven't changed a thing except that I installed a few mods, but all of those have been removed and I'm back to a mod list that worked perfectly just a little earlier. Haven't touched any video settings at all. Anybody seen this before?
Mortrix927
What kind of computer are you using? Desk or Laptop? When you set up the game, did you pick your resolution from the drop down menu? Or, Did you let Oblivion choose for you? Normally, letting Oblivion choose is not a good idea because it only detects a limited variety of cards. Usually, you'll want to use the drop down menu to manually select your resolution. The option at the bottom of the list is the highest resolution your computer can handle; but you will want to mouse over the video card icon in your service tray (if applicable) to verify that this is the resolution your computer is set to. If you do not have a video card icon, you can right click on the desktop, click personalize, and then video settings. If you've chosen a resolution other than the highest which your computer is capable; choose the matching one from Oblivions drop menu. If there is no exact match choose the one that would logically be one step lower. This will prevent windows from having to switch resolutions when playing your game. Belfaborac
Thanks for the reply dallen68! It's got nothing to do with the resolution though. It's set to max and in any case I've been playing without a hitch for quite some time. The PC is a desktop with an Nvidia GTX 275, quad core Intel and 8GB RAM. Never had a problem with anything but mods before and certainly nothing like this.
Telyn
I'm thinking you may be overheating. :(
Belfaborac
It's not overheating either I'm afraid. That would produce break-up and distortion, but this is an honest-to-god cartoon effect. The colour palette is hugely reduced and every outline has a black border, just like in a cartoon. Like this: http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt301/Belfaborac/OBScreen0640x480.jpg Basically the game starts, almost immediately freezes and then after 15-20 seconds changes to this, with the addition of awful lag in mousing and movement. Never seen anything like it, ever, in any game before.
LFact
Are you using OBGEv2 by chance? I remember there's OBGEv2 shader for (cartoony)cell shading.
Belfaborac
Ehhh...yes I am. But I've not changed anything after installing it and it's been working fine all the time. Could it just have gone haywire or been changed by another mod?
Belfaborac
Right, let me answer that myself: yes, it can happen. I removed the OBGEv2 dll and the phenomenon went away. Problem solved. Thanks a bunch LFact, very much appreciated!
demongoat
you can switch it off if you are using the esp, the item is found in your inv.or you can make a shader.txt to turn it off, if you want to keep using obge
Belfaborac
Thanks dg, appreciate the info. However, I've noticed no ill effects or drop in performance since removing OBGE, so I'll just leave it out I think.
