kbob
Hi a few days ago i got a idea how to make a improve a cannibalism perk to a small system. 1. Delete cannibalism perk, and make a trait from it.Trait Cannibal: - Give a ability to devour human corpse - Prevent player to satisfy his hunger by eating a normal food (form now only a human flesh can do it, by restoring a 120 Food points by a corpse) - Survival depending food is restoring much less HP ( 1/2 ? ) and medicine cutted down to 70%-80% After consuming a 80-100 corpses player can gain a ability to consume a mutant or ghoul flesh(by giving a new perk or something). It'll also need a separate counter for both of them, because:After consuming a 20-30 mutant or ghoul corpses it'll result in mutation of some kind, with both positive and negative effects like:- Ghoul eater : After consuming a X ghoul corpses, courier become more resist to radiation (+30) and maybe a Limb Restore Effect, but losing some of his maximum HP(5%?) and AP(5-10) in result of body degradation.- Mutant eater : After X mutant body, courier can get a bonus for melee/unarmed dmg and critical chance, 2 points to DT and something more, but losing a 1 points of perception or charisma. As a more advanced scripting option we could add a [Cannibal Knife] to give a option to cut body to smaller pieces and put some of a human (in this option - only human) flesh for a later ( 1-2 pieces/body ; - 60 FOOD ; some of hp ). I think that s easy even for a beginner scripter. What you think ppl?
VincentIcarus
Well, there's already a perk in New Vegas that allows you to eat Ghouls and Super Mutants (Ghastly Scavenger, I think?) so having to eat X number of humans to get that perk would kind of defeat the purpose of even having the perk in the vanilla game. Also if you set up a Cannibal system like that then it would probably be best to change the Cannibal perk to a Cannibal trait so you can begin your game with the Cannibal perk instead of having to wait till you get to the right level (6, I think?) Overall, I think it's a brilliant idea and if someone were to come out with this mod I would definitely play with it. (When I'm starving and forgot to carry extra food, I'll eat some people to survive.)
kbob
I have no scripting experiance, and im trying to find a few things in GECK now like:-where i can find a devouring script - like how many hp player can restore, and how to add to devour a food regeneration.and how can i lower a amount of hp restored by food and medicine / turn off food points restoring by normal food
KazFoxsen
Reminds me of the Family and Arefu. Perhaps you could add some blood-drinking as a source with different advantages (maybe less radioactive than mutant/ghoul flesh).
Rossum
I would think cannibalism would be more of a challenge acquired perk. Like if you track down and eat X number of Strange Meats in the game then you become a cannibal and don't mind eating flesh right off of a dead body. Or if you are playing in Survival Mode and you start reaching critical starvation (or whatever) then you start finding human flesh on slain human enemies. If you eat human flesh then you become a cannibal. Though, to be honest I think cannibalism is portrayed really unrealistic in the game. Cannibals shouldn't bend over and take bites out of human corpses any more than normal people take bites out of uncooked chickens or cows. I figure the wandering cannibal would probably kill his enemy, remove the armor, then cut open the belly and remove the liver or heart or other nutrient rich organ. Cutting off bits of meat from the arms and legs would be the next part. Actually sawing off limbs would likely take way too much time if your cannibal is trying to do this without everyone else knowing about it. Also, since the Courier in this game is being watched by everyone (its like Legion and NCR spies are always tracking him/her by following the trail of corpses or completed quests) then cannibalizing too many people would catch their attention. If every legion soldier you kill has chunks of meat removed from the corpse then people would associate that with you and suddenly bodies with missing chunks are declared "Subject died from Courier exposure." Also... human flesh is really unhealthy to eat. I mean most other animals like cows have microbes in them but the microbes can't make humans sick due to different physiology. If you eat meat from a person then you are exposed to all the germs they had in their body (and frankly in the wasteland you can bet that most of the people you fight don't get very good healthcare). So human flesh should have all sorts of negative effects or the risk of disease. The health conscious cannibal can get around this by cooking the meat, preferably with a lot of spices or such that would kill all the germs. Stuff like Garlic with its natural anti-microbial properties should be ingrediants in such a dish. Maybe... Xander Root (its part of healing powder and stimpaks so its got some kind of healthy stuff in it), Coyote Tobacco Chew (I think Tobacco also has some anit-microbial properties and its addictive so what the heck), possibly some kind of hard liquor or alchohol as well for anti-microbial effect and flavor. So your wasteland cannibal would probably kill someone, harvest a chunk of meat from the corpse or particularly nutrient rich organs like the heart or liver, then prepare the meat at a campfire while being careful to kill all the microbes that might be in the prepared flesh. It would likely be cut into thin strips and soaked/marinated in stuff before being cooked thoroughly. Acquiring the perk/trait should be done through a quest or challenge instead of getting it through leveling up.

If you eat human flesh then you become a cannibal. It's also a interesting point of view, why not. I have been thinking about small history with a cannibal shack and diary.Also... human flesh is really unhealthy to eat.So we can use a Eated Bodies counter to create a challenge with negative reward, like body or mind degradation in result of eating a human flesh. So your wasteland cannibal would probably kill someone, harvest a chunk of meat from the corpse or particularly nutrient rich organs like the heart or liver, then prepare the meat at a campfire while being careful to kill all the microbes that might be in the prepared flesh.I'm really not a big fan of cooking ppl. We could add a few better recipes with xander root, bitter drink with dish and dash perk advantages.Acquiring the perk/trait should be done through a quest or challenge instead of getting it through leveling up.Starting from a quest, give a next perks (positive and negative) in result of eating bodies (dish and dash, 25 corpses ; 2 positive perks like bonus to DT, HP, Endurance at 75 , 150 corpses, and negative at 200, 350, 500 corps). Sounds good. Yesterday i get a few basic editorial skill with GECK, today i'll maybe make some things. Still got a question - how to decrease a number of 'restore starving' and 'restore health' from normal food and medicine ? Any idea ?
TrinXaS
Well I like this, especially the part when the Cannibal Perk could be acquired by eating an amount of strange meat or by unlocking the cannibal feat while reaching a critical level in starvation!I for myself think that Cannibalism is an important aspect of the post-apocalyptic game and it is sad to see that it's not very exploited... in a topic of mine I've suggested a new system to harvest food from corpses in order to make it more immersive and survivalist-like. take a look you might find it interesting: Another way to Loot, to dismember and to Devour:This mod aims to change completely the way we used to loot, dismember and devour, in order to make it more logical and immersing.First of all after killing an animal, a menu will poop if we activate its corpse, in the menu we could choose to loot or to devour, for example I just killed a Gecko, I choose devour and the Courier will plays the devouring animation a random Gecko’s body part will be dismembered, the courier automatically consumes a Gecko’s raw meat. To choose “Looting” from the menu the courier should have specific items such as a knife, a bone saw or whatever, and when this option is chosen the courier will perform special animation to look like he’s looting, then after a few second the looted corpse’s inventory will shows up containing the retrieved items such as Hides, Meats and Eggs (and other items such as eyes, teeth, hands if you want to add them), after looting these items some body parts will be amputated or the corpse will explode in gruesome fashion. As for human NPCs, we still can loot them normally but if we’re sneaking a menu will poop and we can choose the same way as for animals, devour, dismember or loot their equipments, if we devour same thing will happen, the courier will consume human remains raw meat, and a body part will be removed, and we could consume the corpse again and again until there’s no body part’s left, if we choose to dismember will could loot mutilated legs, arm, torso, organs and maybe some items we didn’t noticed first. I think that it will be challenging and interesting if we could loot armours only after choosing the dismemberment option so that way we could pick up only apparent items with normal looting system. As for the side effects of cannibalism, the Courier become less intelligent and charismatic as he starts to feel hungry, his accuracy decrease and become nearly impossible to use a sniper (IRL the cannibals catch a disease called Kuru that cause their body to shiver), and normal food will restore only 50%, and as positive side effect the Cannibal will have improved unarmed and melee attacks! (better if he can have the Feral Ghoul's animation when reaching extrem hunger)
kbob
today i'm learning hot to use geck propertly and for now i throw out a canibal perk from playable one, it'll be acquired by a quest (or a simple dialog for begin :P). After that a amount of eated corpses will give you a access to a better perks with advantages both also with negative effects (i mean a that Kuru - Creutzfeld disease with a inteligence troubles, increased gun spread etc.). It ll take me a lot of time to complete it, im learning atm. Recipes for a special food (4-5 recipes) ll be included too (this is the easy part). EDIThttp://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=41240 My mod, first version for now. 'm going to add a quest, npc and maybe a safehouse but still need more skills Edited April 5, 2011 by kbob
