Why Does The Tilde (~) key work??

Is Windows XP Media Center edition on your computer? This could be causing your problem. To fix it just

unplug the remote receiver and then try to open the console.

I have the same problem, and I unplugged the reciever while the game was open and it still didn't work. Also, for some reason; both it and the ' key end up putting the wrong symbol into type boxes like when you're enchanting something. I don't know why, but instead of putting ' it puts : and I'm not holding shift or anything.

Then you might simply have a problem with your keyboard. Or is it only in game that it happens?

My computer also has this problem all the time when playing Oblivion. It makes all my letters capital letters and displays all the secondary commands for other buttons like numbers and symbols. I have found out a way to fix this momentarily. First you have to type some letters or numbers while holding they shift button down into your consol or an enchanting or spell alter. Then, delete the letters using the Backspace button. After this, I can type lower case letters (don't hold the shift button down when you type the new letters and numbers). I don't know what exactly causes this and I don't know a permanant way to fix it, but this works every time I try it.

Ok, this will be my first post as a NON-N00B Oblivion cheater, and it will be a good one! I know how to fix your problem, as i had the same problem myself! (You can see my posts from quite a while ago) Anyways... So, obviously you have changed the .ini to say bAllow blah blah 1 instead of 0. So that being done, the answer has actualy already been posted:

Now... Your problem here is this... You have to unplug the media center censor from your computer BEFORE you start oblivon. Find the right USB cable, unplug it. Then run Oblivion. Downside to this is somtimes you forget you have it unplugged and thus, try to use the remote without success and making you think the battieries are dead. (Has happened to me alot).

If this STILL does not fix your problem, PM me and i will give you further advice! Happy Cheating!

PS: If my english isn't the best, im sorry. But you will have to live with it.

Very good advice. However, the date on this thread is over a year and a half old. This could be considered thread necromancy. I will leave it up as this question gets asked several times a month and maybe it will help someone.

Please do not report this as it has already been addressed.

Seems the thread was not clarified to date, even if so old and as bben says it recurs at times.

Most of times the issue occurs on no English keyboards. The cause is the game doesn't concern with the actual key name (it seeks for the positional matrix). To it the tilde key is the one most left over the TAB key (commonly the one to the left of the number 1). At my own keyboard it is the quote ( ' ) key, as example.
