Update on NMM version 0.60 and FAQ

Will just point out that I use NMM 0.60.3, and all is well. I did read the warning, I did install 0.60, got a crash, filed a report, and Staff released 0.60.1 within a hour.

Just for fun I installed Skyrim again, and all my old mods was there. Outdated, of course, since NMM did not download any new versions of the mods.

I might need to run LOOT once more, to get the plugins in right order. But that would be expected, since the game hasn't been touch in 10 months...

So I have no clue what's makes people go haywire over this.

#Warnings was given, a lot.

#Info about the slightly difference between mod enable, disable and un-install was given.

#Info of how to roll-back was clearly in the News-post.

#This is a beta software.

#Its free.

#Nexus are doing us a favour with this service.

I looking back at the last few days, and are left feeling hopeless and disbelief in mankind.

Yes, most of us are no computer geeks and need help when problem arises. But then be humble and please read.

If you are fiddling with forces you don't know/master, you need to be extra careful. Or you will get burned.

Now I looking forward to use the Profile system, so I can have a unique setup for each play-through...

Well it totally screwed up my game thank you very much.

I just opened it up to rearrange some mods, saw the updating, clicked on it.

Then I get to spend the next 2 hours completely uninstalling everything and then reinstalling.

You can't just migrate by uninstalling and then restalling, many of these mods have, a order in which they need to be installed, as well as choices to their installation.

Hard to believe no one working there knows this.!

Well said ... several hours later and all is not as it was and rather than spending some time relaxing in the wasteland I'm off to something else.

Very disappointed.

Some people seem to think that profiling is the new version. Profiling is a feature of the new version, NOT the version itself. Profiling is the ability to have more than one set of mods and switch back and forth. To do that you first have to have the NMM working - THEN that becomes the first ( and at this point only) profile available. In order to have another version, you will have to create a new mod list - it may have many of the same mods, not use some, and instead use some entirely different mods. Then, you could use either profile to play - say one version of Skyrim where your character is a Bosmer archer with mods designed to enhance his skills. And the other your player is a Kajit thief, with other mods just for him. Then later, as needed you can have even more profiles for other purposes - such as just testing some new mod you think might be interesting alongside of the rest of your mod list without disturbing the profile that has your original mod list.

Can you use it just like the old version without the profiling? Yes, if that is what you want, using profiles is not required. But it will be there if you ever decide to use it.

Then it is just like the old version but has this new profiling? - No. in order to get profiling ( and some other things that will be coming in the future) a major redesign of some of the program was needed. So it is not just like the old version. And, nearly all of the 40,000 Alpha testers think it is better. And many probably had more mods than you.

My recommendation - just don't update to v0.60 yet if you really don't know what you are getting into. It really is working for a lot of users though - for some reason, the people that it works for are not posting how wonderful it is because it just worked for them, and they are too busy playing the games.

First off, let me thank Dark One for his patience and perseverance. How you can manage to read through all of these comments is beyond me? YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB! I am sorry you are getting so much grief over this, and that once again people are not reading the instructions as they should be.

@ Vyxenne While I agree with some of your comments, I disagree with the references you have made to the site news. There are actually two icons for it, quite visible as soon as you open the main page of Nexus. There is a world globe at the top of the page beside your name, and also an icon in the row of icons listing file news, latest news, etc. It is the very first icon in the row marked with a big exclamation point!!!!!

I have been a long time user of this site, and while I don't spend my entire day on it, I do find that a simple few minutes and you can find most things you are looking for. There are also moderators listed to help you out if you get stuck, not to mention that most of the users on site are quite helpful as well. You simply have to ask?

As with any new mod or tool released there are going to be bugs. I don't care how well it is tested there will always be some glich that is unexpected. No two computers are identical and people have various different set ups and mods installed.

@lexx005 Wonderful idea, if more people would realize that as intelligent as machines can be they are still fallible. I have always done a manual load order no matter the version of the NMM as I have over 250 mods installed and a number of them are dependent on load order, i.e. Multiple Adoption Mod for one, which requires any house mod using adoptions to be installed before it.

So in general my comment is this, again: Take your bloody time in what you are doing and read the instructions. Never take a mod or tool at face value no matter how long it has been established. This has always been a sore point for a lot of modders, in general, as people will scan through mods, see something they like and, "oooooh I'll install that one" without taking into consideration what it is going to do to your game. The instructions are there for a reason, not just to look pretty on the cover page. Any upgrade to a mod or tool, no matter how long it has been out, will have proper instructions, especially if something has changed.

My two cents for what is worth.........

Cheers,

The only bug i encountered was that it said it reinstalled my mods, but in game they were not actually working, i had to go back and uninstall then reinstall some mods, but honestly, people need to chill out, death threats? really? Anyway, so far i am very pleased with the update and want you guys to keep the good work up.

Sending a death threat for a saved really shows what kind of class asshole a person is ,these things happen. how may times people are advised to back up their saves, back up their saves. i mean seriously? Death threats?

No one forced you to update to the bleeding edge. This is a beta release for a reason.
