ResidentWeevil2077 Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 This is just a suggestion for the whole of "GamingSource" sites, but what about implementing RSS feeds? At first I was skeptical of this new form of browsing technology, but it has been rather useful, especially for a site that updates its content on a regular basis (as is the case with Planet Elder Scrolls, as well as other GameSpy Network sites). I was just wondering if you'd be able to implement some sort of RSS feed management system or something of the sort into the GamingSource network. This is only a suggestion, but I think it would be a rather good idea.
Community Manager Dark0ne Posted March 18, 2007 Community Manager Posted March 18, 2007 I have considered it in the past but thought that the functionality would go largely unused. I doubt many people even know what RSS is, yet alone how to use it.

ResidentWeevil2077 Posted March 18, 2007 Author Posted March 18, 2007 That is true, as it is a fairly new web browsing technology, and even though IE7, Firefox 2, Opera, and Safari have support for it, it isn't used that much anyway. I think it still might have been a good thing to have tho.
JosefK Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 I have considered it in the past but thought that the functionality would go largely unused. I doubt many people even know what RSS is, yet alone how to use it. let's assume you're right at least you should implement a way to track mod updates more efficient than this (you know, I hate loose updates to files uploaded at 23:45 ;)) Agreed, I had to look it up to figure out what he was talking about, and, even still, I don't understand it very well. it's quite simple: you click on the rss button and you get something like an email (or a web page) with just the updated content without wasting hours checking 10 time a day a pageis almost the only way to read blogs\forums\news sites... and would be way better to track mod updates
ResidentWeevil2077 Posted May 11, 2007 Author Posted May 11, 2007 Well, it seems you listened to me, Dark0ne. And I am very grateful you did decide to implement RSS into Gaming Source  . Besides, every web browser (that's pretty much IE7, Firefox 2, Opera, and Safari) can read RSS feeds. IE7 was the last to implement RSS, but it's quite simplfied. All one needs to do is open up an RSS feed, and click the "Subscribe to this feed" link, and the feed is added like a bookmark. It makes checking for updated website content a snap, especially if the site is updated everyday ;) . So, thnx for heeding my words, Dark.
TheTerminator2004 Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 I don't know if it would work, but what would be really good would be an rss feed for the forums, so that you could see the latest posts in a topic without having to visit the forums every time you want to see. I would find it really useful.

TheTerminator2004 Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 What I meant was for the forums, so that I could see the latest posts in a particular subforum, such as General Mod Talk. Sort of like email notification, only using rss instead. Something like in this forum. (theres no actual link- if your using firefox, the icon will appear in the address bar) Isn't that thread about latest mods uploaded to Tessource?
