How to make a follower actually stay where I tell them to stay!?

Is there a mod, tweak, etc. to make a follower (I was playing with sofia follower mod) stay exactly where I tell them, and not rush into combat every damned time I get into combat?

Followers are fun, but this just ruins it. No ability to be stealthy. What morons!

I haven't tried other followers, but forums seem to indicate this is not just a sofia thing. Am I wrong?

Any fix?

The only real 'fix' would be to make them wait far away from the spot where you're going to be fighting. To my knowledge there is no mod like this since your follower is supposed to react to combat, they're not really smart enough to know when you're not in need of their help.

Try Advanced Skyrim Overhaul. Look for the minion system. It allows you to order followers to do almost everything. Especially you can order them to wait a pinpointed place or the reverse - order them to attack a far away target.

If you want a stealthy follower - try the green bane from the above mod. It has unique AI that allows it to stealthly execute attack command. Its not strictly a follower though. Rather a monstrous pet but you may like it.

Unfortunately the Sofia follower isn't compatible with follower mods or tweaks at this time, since they implemented their own within her scripting. It is a problem with other followers because of the AI in Skyrim, but the one I've had the best luck with so far is Amazing Follower Tweaks (AFT). It has a good amount of customization for what followers can do and has a "stealth" function that makes your follower invisible and unaggressive unless they're actually attacked. My main playthrough is a stealthy character, so it helped quite a bit unless I'm trying to manage more than one follower. Then its kind of a field day. The wait function works great though.

This is sadly why I had to uninstall Sofia. Without proper management she got in the way of my character's playstyle, though I'd been hoping they could have been BFFs.

Follower Mod is compatible with virtualy any custom follower mod. No matter if used the vanilla follower framework, or a custom framework. You just need to make sure to recruitthe m for both frameworks.
