Weird Main Menu Crash

Hey everyone,

 

I've been following the STEP guide pretty closely but I managed to cause the game to crash when I try to start it up with FOSE. I'm not sure what is causing this, but I'm pretty sure my compatibility patches must be buggered. I've recorded a quick video of what happens when I start the game here:

180 files in the load order and what looks like a load order jumbled by LOOT.

 

You have too many files. The game cannot handle more that 130 +/- depending on the how powerful of a rig you have. You need to trim at least 50 files, or more.

 

Do not use LOOT to sort your load order. It does not place Fallout 3 plugins properly. Look to the FWE mod page for a sample load order and compare it to yours.

 

Compatibility patches must load after the last mod they are patching. Otherwise the patch gets overwritten by the lower plugins, rendering it useless.

I had the same issue plaguing me for a while. Unfortunately the only way I fixed it was starting the STEP guide over from scratch - tho I believe what I determined in doing so was that it was a mistake during the UI section. I think it was either a bad install of DarnUI or UIO. I'll have to look up my posts about it in the STEP forums, tho, to be sure.

 

BTW; I've had major problems trying to get the STEP mods stable, redoing it about 3 times now since June. It's got to the point where I'm considering going back to NMM, too. Support at the STEP forums is inconsistent and often - as here sometimes - you get responses that seem a bit... elitist.
