DaemonGrin
So I created some custom tactics for a companion and I get the feeling it is messing up the companion wheel. I can't use any of the functions except talk to and back up since none of those are in the topics they are just hard coded I assume. If this is the problem is there a way to make custom tactics topics work for companion wheel? I made them custom (actually all topics are specific to him except GREETING *not made a top level lol) so I could change the topic text ie I think we should travel together was changed to fit more for the companion and not affect it for vanilla and/or mod companions. If I need to use the vanilla followerstactics does the topic text get overridden by the prompt text and does the prompt text only appear for the specific character with the correct conditions? The other thing is I might have done something wrong with my first companion I made, in that the topics changed for all companions which is why with my second attempt I made all customs. Thanks,Geoff Note - It has ZERO conflicts, ZERO errors, ZERO mod dependencies.
madmongo
I don't know if it is possible to do what you want to do. If you modify the vanilla topics then you'll screw them up for all of the NPCs in the game that use them. You can use the vanilla topics just to make the command wheel work, but then not include an easy way to get to those topics from your NPC's dialog, and instead you can have your own custom tactics dialog that is reachable by conversation. In other words, you'll have two sets of tactics dialogs, one just to make the command wheel work and the other that you access through conversation and isn't tied to the command wheel. The problem is that if you modify the same things (follow distance, aggressiveness, etc) then the command wheel won't know that you've changed something in your custom tactics dialog, and you'll have to press the button twice on the command wheel to make it work. So you'll still end up screwing up the command wheel that way too. Can you use the vanilla tactics dialogs for your character, and then add your own tactics options as additional features not accessible via the command wheel? Or are you just trying to customize the dialog to fit your NPC's personality? Edited October 2, 2015 by madmongo
DaemonGrin
I see, I see. Yeah I am trying to making the dialogue unique for his personality. That's one thing I don't like about the vanilla system the player is like a robot saying the same things to everyone. So I was hoping to break the robotics with the new companion and his intimidating personality. He's a larger NPCs dubbed Big Guy in different topics. Like instead of Let's Get Going or w/e the letsgo topic is the player says Come on Big Guy! instead of changed to ranged weapon I wanted to use How bout trying something with a bit more kick? so on and so forth. But as you said and as I thought if I change the topic text in the followerstactics etc it totally changes it for everyone. I haven't messed with Prompts because, well, not sure what it does XD. Yeah at first I wasn't sure what you meant with having issues if I used the default topics for the wheel and my custom for the dialogue but it clicked after reading it a couple times. So if I use the wheel to set switch to melee then open up the dialogue and tell him to use ranged, the wheel will still be set to ranged and if I wanted to use the wheel to change to ranged I would have to click it twice ; ; to bad. For me not really an issue I use the wheel for all that and only go into dialogue to advance quests etc but if I release it it would be an annoyance for a few I think XD. So I don't have issues using the vanilla for the wheel I just don't make any top level or link them to choices in the custom dialogues easy enough. I could even omit the custom tactics eventually since they pretty much are useless with a functioning wheel. The personality lost would be regained in eventual quest dialogue. So I've got some things to think on while I fiddle around XD Thanks!Geoff
DaemonGrin
Well for giggles I added all the necessary topics for the wheel copied everything from my custom ones (made a duplicate esp first) to the vanilla and instead of changing the topic text I added my custom lines to the prompts and it seems to work and not change it for every npc cause I (had no companions with lvl 1 test player) consoled to 188 and hired Veronica all the let's trade etc were still vanilla. This makes me happy and annoyed that I created all those custom topics etc @.@ Thanks,Geoff EDIT - Forgot to add that I deleted the custom tactics, inventory and wait from the topics options not the topics list so I can rename them and change the names for quest dialogue etc rather than having to make each one. Which was a "long" process the first time. Anyway did this instead of trying to leave them as the dialogue options. Hence the need to duplicate the ESP XD.
