Malchik
I did not see his name in the search so perhaps this is new. In the Imperial Cult quest for the Ring of the Wind, you meet the above character. He asks you for a Divine Intervention scroll. If you give it to him he vanishes leaving you with an interesting pair of gloves worth 4000 septims at the Creeper/Mudcrab. However, if you do not close the dialogue box and happen to have another scroll of Divine Intervention, raise the topic again and he will give you a second pair of gloves. The same applies if you have a third. It is, I suppose, cheating. But with ten scrolls you end up with gloves worth 40,000 septims and why stop at ten? If you are in the mages guild you can get free scrolls from Ald Ruhn, Balmora, Sadrith Mora and Vivec. Cheeky huh!
Maquissar
Sounds like cheating... although I never met the guy... however, if you want money that bad you can use the console, I don't think that it'd be more reproachful than exploiting a bug of the game ;)
Jesugandalf
Yeah, but the bug Malchik exploits is a more "elegant" way of cheating ;)
Maquissar
There are no 'elegant' ways of cheating, either you cheat or you don't ;)
cmac
This particular error, and one other exactly like it, are just dialogue bugs that do not have a journal entry signifying Jon giving the PC the pair of gloves, and, therefor, will continue to give the PC the gloves as long as the supply of Divje Intervention Scrolls holds out. The other oppurtunity to do this is also an Imperial Cult Quest, the one where you are sent to find the Boots of the Apostle. The woman on the high ledge in the same cavern as the boots will give you her Constant Effect magickal items as long as you give her a scroll each time. Once again, a dialogue bug. A bad thing in both of these quests is that, if you talk to one of the 'deities-in-mortal-form,' and you run out of DI scrolls, you will get a negative journal entry saying you were unprepared. I just got the gloves and Mara's items once and then closed the dialogue box.
ThetaOrionis01
There was a similar bug - which IIRC was fixed in the first patch - in Balmora, when reporting back to that dozy Hlaalu woman about Ralen Hlaalu's death. She absolutely insisted on pressing money on me, and her flattery became quite disturbing...'it is SUCH an HONOUR to meet you'.... GET OFF ME, YOU PSYCHOPATHIC STALKER!!!! It became rather embarrassing - she simply would not stop handing over 2000 septims anytime I tried to convey my condolences regarding her friend's death. And each time she insisted on boosting my reputation too.... I swear the other NPCs in the room were laughing at my obvious embarrassment.... :help: In the end I had to mumble excuses about having left the iron on, and made a hasty getaway, half expecting her to follow me. Oh yes, lest I be accused of cheating - I couldn't bring myself to hang on to those ill-gotten gains....nor the reputation I'd acquired from that obviously deranged woman. I loaded a previous save
Malchik
Well I confess to only having done it with two scrolls - since that was the extent of the DI scrolls I had at the time. But it happened by accident. I then reloaded to the previous save and checked it could be done more than twice. After finding it could I continued with the saved game taking advantage of the extra pair of gloves that had been acquired in innocence. I merely pass the information to those of you who will take advantage of it. I am sure there will be one or two of you who accept a 4000 septim boost but won't nip into the console to make it 4000000!
