NBalchemist
The Fallout 4 system requirements finally got released and I would love to play this game on at least High to Very High, Ultra being preferred and probably with mods, eventually. I've quoted the Recommended specs from the steam page and my current specs below. RECOMMENDED:OS: Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)Processor: Intel Core i7 4790 3.6 GHz/AMD FX-9590 4.7 GHz or equivalentMemory: 8 GB RAMGraphics: NVIDIA GTX 780 3GB/AMD Radeon R9 290X 4GB or equivalentHard Drive: 30 GB available space My Current Specs:OS: Windows 7 64-bitProcessor: Intel Core i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHzMemory: 8192MB RAMGraphics: NVIDIA GT 630PSU: 460W I need to get a new graphics card and PSU, but I have no idea what to get. I'd like to go above the GTX 780 so I'd have a better chance of being able to play on Ultra and also not have to upgrade the card again for a while (hopefully), but I'm on a budget. I'm thinking of possibly getting a 800W psu, because it seems like I'll need to eventually upgrade the processor as well. Does my processor not meeting recommended mean I won't be able to play on Very High or Ultra? Help, please?
JimboUK
The GTX 970 is a good bang for buck card that should do just fine, I'd ignore the CPU requirements for now, the consoles the game will run on have CPUs better suited to a phone, if the game does require the kind of CPU on the PC that it suggest then the port has serious issues. NBalchemist
Are the GTX 900s better than the 700s? I'm confused about the differences, since it seems like (from what I've googled) some 900s are better than some 700s and vice versa. Is the 970 better than the 780? Do you think the 970 is a card that would be able to keep up with new games for the next couple of years? What PSU brand would you suggest? Sorry for all the questions, I don't really know anything about computer hardware.
soupdragon1234
The official recommendation is for a GTX 780 and the GTX 970 is superior to that, the 980 better still. I'd be wary of that 460W PSU though its on the low side you may be looking at a new unit if you want to power one of the top of the range cards. Given the huge range in specs for FO4 (The GTX 780 is equivalent to a R9 280 not a 290, and the FX 9590 is way inferior performance wise to an i7 4790) I'd take the official recommended specs with a very large pinch of salt indeed. Basically it looks like Bethesda looked at the top of the range CPU's for Intel and AMD and said "yep, thats go with those" rather than, y'know, actually doing any benchmarks or anything. In short a good i5 or i7 and a GTX 780/R9 280 or better will in all likelyhood be good enough.
NBalchemist
Thank you for the advice. I think I'll get a GTX 970 and a 750W psu. Now I just have to figure out what brand of psu I should be looking at getting.
Moksha8088
Corsair is a good brand. Look for the letters HX or RM followed by 750. The 970 draws less power than the comparable R9 390, but that power supply could handle either one.
mark5916
The first number (for example the 7 in GTX 760) tells you the generation of the GPUs it belongs to, and it's an general performance indicator. The second number in the name (the 60 on the same GTX 760) indicates the performance level of the card. Actualy the higher the better. The “Ti” cards are a bit more powerful than the non-Ti cards with the same number. ------------- The GTX 970 has a low power consumption. (for what it offers) So even a good 460watt PSU should do the trick, but it always advisable to go one or two steps above that, to be sure that your PC works as intended in any kind of situations. A 650Watt PSU would be more than enough, for a system with an i7-3770 and an GTX 970. (even if you overclock your CPU and GPU) -------------- Some Good PSU brands would be: EVGA SuperNOVA 650 (750) (850) G2 series XFX XTR 750 Corsair HX 750i Corsair AX 760 Edited November 4, 2015 by mark5916
ExtraMana
I have a GTX 780M. Since I can run everything else on ultra, I doubt Fallout 4 will be any different. To be honest it isn't near the graphic fidelity of the more demanding games of the last couple years anyway. For what's worth, that's your GPU performance on some games. http://imgur.com/EcLaxgS
