mydah42
I’ve been away from Skyrim for a long time. In a couple of months I’ll be buying a new PC and going back to Helgen. One of the things that bothered me most about vanilla Skyrim is how often things are repeated; the same voices, the same clothing, the same armor, the same weapons. Honestly, in all of Skyrim wouldn’t people have more than 10 different clothing styles? I think the people should have more clothes to wear. There are LOTS of weapons and armor and clothing mods. Some of these mods distribute the new clothing/armor/weapons among all of the various NPCs, and some don’t. Basically I’d like to know how to take a mod like Common Clothes (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/51813/?) and add more clothing to it. I plan to install some mods that add more NPCs, such as Immersive NPCs, so I need to make sure that all NPCs can wear the new clothes I add. What is the best way to do this? Boombro
Load the mod in the ck, make new outfit ( to not be loot-able.) then give them to the npcs.
mydah42
Thank you for the fast reply Boombro, but I'm really new to this. I only understand a little of what you're talking about. Can you give me some more specific directions? Or maybe you can explain what concepts I need to learn and where to read about them?
Boombro
Don't worry it easy. Go here to know where to find the ck and the basics http://www.creationkit.com/Category:Getting_StartedThis is about making and npc, but will also show how to give them an outfit. http://www.creationkit.com/Bethesda_Tutorial_Creating_an_Actor Now, in Skyrim ck terms. An outfit is like a skin, you can't loot it. Just like shown above. If you wish them to be loot-able. Just add them to the inventory. Now, use the object window>items>outfit. Click new and name the outfit something easy to filter. With the outfit window still on, go to items>armors and drag and drop the items in.Now give the npc the outfit. foamyesque
The problem with Boom's approach is that editing an NPC directly will override anybody else's changes to that NPC. An alternative approach would be to edit either the original Outfits or levelled lists to add the items into those.

mydah42
I did some looking and I found a video that talks a little bit about leveled lists. According to FadingSignals, Skyrim uses leveled lists to put armor onto NPCs. I guess the same is true for regular clothes. I think I have a lot to learn in order to do all this myself.
Boombro
Not at all, you wish to change normal, named npcs. And mods that add to leveled lists hardly touch them. Expect if you have a mod that does change that npc outfit or inventory.Make a new outfit and give it to the npc.
DigitalVixen
I could recommend checking out: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/17720/? and you'll also need the patch: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/59942/? Basically it's the same base-mesh but with a variety of textures. Then there different textures are used to make different clothing items in the game and finally distributing those clothes via a leveled list. If you wish to create more diversity then this would be the way I chose to distribute clothes; by editing the leveled lists rather than editing the NPCs directly. mydah42
Hiya DigitalVixen! Thanks for the tips. As a matter of fact you and I had a conversation about this very topic last December. At the time I said I had no extra time to learn how to mod. Well I still don't have time to learn but I'm going to try and do it anyway. I expect it will take me awhile to understand the things I need to know.
