Making the file upload system split archive friendly

The new system in place that allows us to upload multiple files is nice, but it lacks support for adding split archives. Split archives need to have their part information intact, and have the prefix the same to function properly for downloaders.

 

A suggestion would be to check for the typical format used by split archines, such as MyMod.part1.rar, and MyMod.part2.rar Currently the file system rejects these extentions, as only .rar, .zip, and .7z etc, are recognized.

 

Mods like one of mine that have BSA files that are well over 50mb now have no way of hosting their mods here without using a mirror link, and most free mirrors that accept files of this size will remove the files eventually if they are not downloaded at least once in 30 days. This is not a good solution if we intend for our work to stay available.

 

Adding some kind of support for the split archives would be greatly appreciated. Adding an extra option to upload a split archive, and giving multiple upload slots on the same page so that the prefix could be duplicated for each one, and allowing only the part number to be different is necessary.

 

Thanks for your consideration, and I hope we can get some kind of system in place that allows large files to be hosted here directly again.

For the time being, it would probably work to package each part in another archive, thus preserving the file name but requiring an additional step.

That's a good suggestion, I'll try it and see how much confusion it causes.
