failed to initialise renderer, can't start game

whatiswrong

Recommended Posts

I have a new computer which I am trying to play bethesda games on. I've installed oblivion, fallout 3 and skyrim but NONE OF THEM WORK!! I keep getting "failed initialise renderer". The system requirements is not the problem and I have used the auto update driver from AMD to ensure that I have the latest drivers for my video card installed on windows 7. I am running no mods this is just the basic games from steam that are not working. Anyone know what I could do to make them work?

That error is usually associated with bad resolution. Make sure your res is set to the correct setting for your monitor. Also steam ahould be installing DirectX and .NET everytime you do a new install, if it isnt then try installing/downloading from MS yourself.

Yes I have tried ALL resolutions available in the menu, same error every time. it has installed but I just tried reinstalling doesn't work

Are you running through steam? Or what?

Here is a post on what we need to help: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/1592053-how-to-ask-for-help/

I am running through steam.

Okay, like I say I know the requirements are enough for Skyrim (I am trying to run vanilla):

Intel Core i7 3770K 3,5Ghz

Gigabyte Radeon HD7770 OC 1024MB GDDR5

16 gb ram

I am running on ssd drive 500gb plenty of space

it is a desktop.

I have tried installing it outside of program files and right now i have been trying to run it from in program files, this is still the current folder I have the same problem in both locations.

I have NO mods it is completely fresh install.

Thank you for your effort

Exist steam, then use steam again.

ok, i tried this. i have restarted the computer many times

Ok I just worked through this problem yesterday as I recently reformatted my PC and had to reset everything on my PC to get Skyrim to work. You need to play around with your screen resolution settings and then make sure your games are set up for that resolution. I have a 3840x2160 monitor, and I even went into the ini file I think it was skyrimpref.ini and manually typed in my screen resolution in the lines provided for height and width for screen resolution and sure enough skyrim fired up immediately.

When I checked my skyrimpref.ini the ini file was set up for a resolution that my monitor resolution I was trying to game on was nowhere near which is why I had to manually type them in.
