ladicen
*Long read ahead* Hey all, I've an idea for mod, but I've never made a mod myself, so I don't know if what I envision is feasible. It makes sense in my head that it should all be possible. What I'd like to get from you all here is two things. 1) Difficulty aside, is my idea possible?2) If it is possible, would anyone be interested in working with me to make it happen? The title should be pretty self explanatory, but let me start with the philosophy behind my idea. While the Fallout 3, NV, Oblivion, and Skyrim games are incredibly entertaining and captivating, they always felt lonely. Companions were interesting, but they didn't fill that void of a real person by your side, and tended to be more trouble than they were worth. At that, they only ever played a narrow role: Their side quest story, extra firepower, and carrying equipment. They were also pretty much loyal no matter what, to a certain degree of course. This is very one dimensional and I always had one desire: I wanted to play with another person. Not MMO style; just 1 other REAL person. I know that people have been trying to make this happen for some time now via online co-op mods but they never really worked for numerous reasons. This is not what I'm trying to do. I have an alternative that I believe can work and would make companions far more dynamic, interesting, and even risky. So, what is my idea, exactly? In short, it's as the title says. I want to create a mod that will allow you to download a companion whose looks, choices, and behavior are based on data and statistics captured from another REAL person's character and their behavior in game. This character would be your Semi-Autonomous Player Character Companion (SAPCC) How to make this happen? There are two parts to this: Data Capture Item and Mercenary Faction Data Capture Item The "Data Capture Item" is an item placed in your inventory that can be turned off or on. While on, the item is capturing your play style data. Anything that happens in the game is just data after all. Therefore, it should be possible to capture this data, then program this data into a SAPCC's AI that can then be downloaded by another player just like any other mod created companion. The data to be captured would be:-Face, hair, eyes, etc-All equipment-Weapon preference-Armor Preference-Accuracy-Perks-SPECIAL-Crime-Combat style-Faction status (liked or disliked by any specific faction)-Buying/Selling habits-I'm sure much more, but you get the idea All this data is captured and then converted into statistics that then determine the AI behavior of the companion. Let me give a small example. My friend Bob creates a character named Jeff. Bob gets the "Data Capture" mod and enables it. Now the mod is capturing everything. It reads that Jeff is:-Bald and has blue eyes-Carries a plasma rifle, sniper rifle, and machete-Uses plasma rifles 90% of the time for mid range with 60% accuracy and a hunting rifle the other 10% with 80% accuracy- Uses a sniper rifle at very long range with 90% accuracy-Uses machete 100% of the time for melee, but only when out of ammo-Wears raider armor 80% of the time, vault jumpsuits 20% of the time-Charges in 60%, sneaks 40%-Is a cannibal, pickpocket and thief-Is addicted to Med-X-Is hated by the BOS-Kills and robs innocent people-Isn't loyal to his own companions So, when you play with Jeff as your companion, he will act according to this data. He looks just like the Jeff created by Bob, will frequently use Med-X, will get into fights with BOS even if you're on good terms with them, the BOS will even turn on you for associating with Jeff. He will be a great help at very long range with a sniper rifle and his great accuracy, but not so much at mid range if he has a plasma rifle equipped. Jeff may also randomly break into a safe, pickpocket a random NPC, or kill an innocent person so he can eat them. He may even do this to YOU since he isn't loyal to anyone else. You could even set Jeff to guard your settlement, but since Jeff is clearly a sociopath, he may end up stealing everything, not really doing his job, and kill all your settlers. It all depends on how the player was behaving while capturing data. Mercenary Faction The Mercenary Faction would function as a hub to choose an SAPCC. You could download just 1 SAPCC, or you could download hundreds (maybe they even come in "packs"?) and have a variety to choose from while in game. You would be able to see some basic data on the SAPCC, such as their looks, weapon/armor preference, accuracy, perks, faction loyalty, reputation. But some info would intentionally be hidden to make it risky. Things like cannibalism, pickpocket or not, thief or not. Basically, any negative information a person would normally keep to themselves won't be known, so you run the risk of dealing with a sociopath like Jeff and not knowing until it's too late. The Mercenary Faction wouldn't be required to make this possible, but it would make it more immersive and organized, giving you more freedom and fluidity in switching out an SAPCC. I think that about does it for the idea. Anyone's thoughts on the feasibility of this? If it's possible, I'd really like to get some good modders together to make it happen. So, let me know what you all think!
DoctorKaizeld
to be honest we cant answer this until the new GECK is released.
TaranTatsuuchi
Saving player characters I could see happening, ala Familiar Faces for skyrim. Creating an ai package based on what you do in game is something I have absolutely no idea if it would be feasable or not.
