charwo
I'm four hours in and this is Fallout 3 all over again. People complained Fallout New Vegas was an expansion pack, ye Gods! Bethesda making yet another theme park version of the post-apocalypse AGAIN! The big settlement is Megaton in Fenway Park? Ye Gods! And paint's supposed to still good after 200 years? YE GODS! The big Dig's collapsed for no describable reason? YE GODS! And despite not getting hit with a single bomb all the bridges are out, (which are the one thing that actually would survive 200 years) Ye Gods....And then we need fusion charges to power Power Armor? That's going back on lore! At least for anything more advanced than a T-45d. That's their own frickin LORE! Does it get any better? At all, or is it all hike through miles and miles of nothing for no reason like 3? Cause they learned nothing for New Vegas as far as I can see. I could give a s#*! about New Vegas, it had civilization, I could be part of the rebuilding, there's NOTHING in Boston. Fallout 1 had more recovery than this! zengrath
There is a lot of things not realistic, i just go with flow and have fun. for example nuka cola aparently made so much cola before the war that even 200+ years later there is still so much to go around and it's still good??? really? soda would last 200+ years and there would still be an abundant amount around to drink 200+ years later? lol. there is plenty not realistic but it's fun in a corny way. Draconious
The textures look like ass too, and there's really just no excuse for the game to look this ugly. Seems most people are on the hype train though....
charwo
Mods will fix most of the issues eventually. Eventually. I wouldn't be complaining all that much except for Boston. Boston should be like Vegas: walled off, using urban farming to be self sufficent....at least some of the wards, most of them. I get the Wasteland being the ass end of nowhere but the city should be fortified and rebuilt using all that wiz nag technology of low level replicators, refurbished robots, trading with control Vaults (and they should all be control Vaults, f*#@ you Chris Avallone) for uncontaminated seeds and pre-war animal stock. That and Vurt needs to make a green mod, and we need pre-war animals. Then I won't mind it so much. The Commonweath being a pisser I understand but Boston.....Boston needs to be totally revamped. Roberto3371
The modding system for weapons is great the A.I on enemies is a little too great (namely because you also added uber health points and spawn out of the middle of nowhere, looking at you zombies/ghouls). Build your own village straight off the bat is also pretty cool though where the turrets get their ammo is anyones guess. I don't like companions and don't use them but the dog is pretty cool for those that do, personally I like the power armor change though it isn't lore friendly no. I like the armor being able to be separated out although not the lack of being able to do that with most outfits. But yeah shitty things: Mole rats, gone are those psychotic little mostly harmless guys who are as big as a small horse, added are those rat sized psychotic little bags of terror which have alongside regular mutation (+400 health points) appear to have been spliced with a large amount of Zerg genes, they can burrow at 40 feet away and reappear next to me in 3 seconds, heck that's even better than roaches. Added are the utterly immersion breaking legendary boss creatures all with a special item this is truly a crappy feature which I wish could be turned off. What happened to hard core mode? Where's muh survival skill? Why am I forced to start as a heterosexual character with a baby? (I have literally 0 attachement to the kid no idea why I should really care except my character maybe does, turned up in diamond city for the first time just looking to trade and oh yeah that's right...)Don't get me wrong, having fun but there are teething issues here. The Commonweath being a pisser I understand but Boston.....Boston needs to be totally revamped.I can't afford new games very often and I held off all year saving my nickels and dimes for this one. Wish to hell I'd gone ahead and gotten something else. I thought we weren't supposed to have to pay the big studios for games that we then have to wait a year or two for the modders... who ALSO paid their $60 bucks... to step up and finish the job like Bethesda should have done in the first place. Any bets on when the first patch will be out? Took me almost five years to get FNV running perfectly on my little rig and it's probably going to be at least that long before , if ever, I'll get to fully enjoy this one. Boombro
And paint's supposed to still good after 200 yearsThere is a guy that paints the wall. There is even a quest about it. there's NOTHING in Boston. There is a lot of stuff. I found a gentlemen club. The owner poisoned his guests with wine for them all die. Then went into a park with swan boats, and then the only good swan boat was a big mutant wearing the boat waiting in the water. Then I went found a loading place and was ganked by a nine ghouls who played dead. There are stuff, but you shouldn't expect a quest and fireworks that says what happened. Ye Gods....And then we need fusion charges to power Power Armor? That's going back on lore! At least for anything more advanced than a T-45d. That's their own frickin LORE!And now because of that power armor is so much better and feels like real powered armor made for war. Yes, they changed the lore, but it for better gameplay. . I could give a s*** about New Vegas, it had civilization, I could be part of the rebuilding. Beth didn't make any of those two games. You can ally with some settlements and help rebuild them. There is a farm close to starting point you can expand upon and help to improve and some like it. And despite not getting hit with a single bomb all the bridges are out,It doesn't have to be a bomb you know. Gilibran
Only just a few hours in the game, the only thing they seem to have learned is that whatever they screwed up, modders will fix for them. It feels empty, not a desolate wasteland, but simply empty, ready to be filled with mods. I almost start to believe that is what they did, create a game, focus on the MQ and have modders fill in the rest.

Lets be honest, who would play "pure vanilla" Skyrim? That game was well fleshed out, but realistically it's the mod community who turned it into the edifice it is today.Bugthesda have stated for while that mods will be fully supported, even now being usable on the console versions (with caveats) I wouldn't be surprised to discover that they plan on releasing a LOT of "additions" to the game, if the buying public complains to much about something, they'll call it a "content patch" if they don't complain too much they'll call it a "DLC" and charge for it.But I think you're quite correct, and Bugthesda are relying on the community to expand their game, just like Skyrim has been expanded way, WAY beyond the original.
