small problems, brawls wont start, khajiit magic menu failure

Title says it all. I'm having two problems that are the most blatant. My first is that my brawls are bugged. Now, this isn't the usual bug. Instead, when I try to start the brawl, the NPC will take my money but then won't do anything and the brawl won't start. If I hit them, it counts as an assault, and i can ask them a hundred times in a row for the brawl and I'll only succeed in losing hundreds of gold. now, my other issue. Magic menu eternally freezes the game upon opening via any method, but only on a khajiit character. Granted I haven't tested all of the races, but I play four characters: an orc, an argonian, and two khajiit, and the magic menus mess up for the khajiit only. I've tried new savegames and all that and idk which mod is doing it.

i use nmm and loot. i do have mod organizer and wyre bash but i am a very stubborn individual who does not like going out of her comfort zone, which is nmm.

I saw "Brawl Bugs" in your load order, but I don't know if it refers to "Brawl Bugs Patch Plug-Ins".

Okay, I distantly recall having a similar problem during my first playthrough. I believe it ended up being a mod conflict and I had to simply de-select all my plug-ins, confirm that I could legally "brawl" again, then kept adding back in about 10 plug-ins at a time (and reloading the same save near the person I wanted to brawl with) until I suddenly couldn't brawl anymore. I then went through adding back in those 10 plug-ins one at a time until I found which one was the culprit. I can't for the life of me remember which one it was, but I do remember that I read it's description very, very carefully and realized I needed a patch for another mod I had that was causing the weird side effect of stopping my brawls.

That sounds painful. But not any more painful than other things I've had to do. I'll give it a try and report back.

I had the same bug and it changed from not starting fights to aborting fights after disabling all plugins and enabling them again.

 

Went necromancer since I did deep research in search engines and found this probable solution nowhere - neither going into stalk nor dismissing my companion had worked for me.

 

Will check what happens after I sort with loot

Edit:

Okay, it seemingly didn't fix the whole problem, but it did improve it a little. The fight initiates, but Mikael will stop fighting after some hits. This is quite an improvement to the not-at-all-starting fight, I will play around with the load order in case some adjustment will fix the problem.

 

So, I added Modern Brawl Bug Fix separately to the bottom of my load order, and it's still the same. I believe there might be some mod which is adding a constant spell to the character, but I haven't yet found which one. If that is so, maybe someone knows some "brawl cheat mode" that simply ignores spells? I won't misuse that one anyway, but it might be a solution in some cases.

 

Workaround while looking for a real fix:

 

Start brawl, open console, click enemy, type "kill", close console. The combatant will then fall to his or her knees. Wait until (s)he stands up and talks to you. You will be recognized as the winner. This can be used as a workaround until the real cause is found - as I don't like to brawl anyway, I can somewhat live with that to skip the brawls I need for some quests.
