Same-sex marriage.

The real problem would be the mirror scene. You would have to point all Nora references to Nate.

Keep in mind that in 2077, other lore in the games has revealed homosexuals to not be as socially accepted as in our time line now. It's doubtful a gay couple would have been able to adopt a baby. Since it is accepted in post apocalyptia, it would make sense to RP that coming out of the vault let him come out of the closet so to speak.

Which other lore? As far as I'm aware, only the BOS has an implicit creed against homosexuality. That comes from FNV, considered closest to the lore and spirit established by the first two games. FNV had openly gay characters, and two of them were your companions. I can't recall anything in either Fallout 3 or FNV that marked this pseudo-era as hostile towards gay people.

Anyway, this is the mod request forum so you can request anything. Yes, it will probably need the GECK/CK but if an adequate modding tool is made early, maybe you will get lucky.

In modern times in the games, it's not an issue except with the BoS and Enclave, both of which inherit doctrine from their prewar roots. We do know, however, that a 50s style campaign for the "nuclear family" was in place, and a part of that was an implicit requirement of "straight" for patriotic reasons. Also, since Nate is military and we can infer from the BoS that they didn't allow openly gay members, he would have to be either closeted and his spouse a beard, or straight.

IT would be probably controversial to put anti-gay content in the game, and Bethesda's creative work is anything but that. Though you could easily understand that its totally logical not to put openly accepted gay-couples in a retro-future based on 50's.

I hadn't seen the intro couple as anything but a convenient chargen mechanism that was fully integrated with the environment and the pre-war story. You don't have to open a non-existent face-creating box now. It has both male and female character models in the same scene. It lets you switch effortlessly between them. I just don't see it as Bethesda dropping some subtle hint about sexual orientation/attitudes of this fictional era. Mechanism, pure and simple. Too bad if it restricts your preferences right now but we can mod that error out. :)

Arguing if it breaks "Lore" or "Canon", or the "Intent" of Bethesda is almost completely irrelevant when talking about morning. If you want to keep it that rigid, that's fine; you don't have to use every mod. Edited by acelogan

I agree with the latter but not the former. I happily load over a hundred mods in every bethesda game but I don't load things that interfere with canon. It's a matter of courtesy already observed on the Nexus to point out lore friendly vs non, as I am hardly the only player who feels that way. It can waste hours of play to install a mod only to find it added something wildly lore unfriendly. With that in mind, I felt it worth pointing out that a character can be gay even if they start the game married to the opposite sex.
