If you all think we can edit the scripts, then I'm all for it. However, I have absolutely no idea how to do that, and I barely have a handle on FO4Edit (at least when it comes to editing NPC behavior). I've made some progress, and I'm going to keep working at it, but unless someone is really familiar with scripts and with FO4Edit, we may have to wait till the GECK comes out before we take the next step. I'm fine with that personally, since it's coming out sometime in April, which is less than a month from now.

I don't know what y'all prefer - wait for the GECK, or try to make the mod using FO4Edit. I'm okay with either one, but if we go with the latter I may be very limited on the amount of help I can give

Yeah, I think it really is a waste of time trying to do this through scripting and FO4Edit when there's a good chance that the CK will come out before we'd even have finished. It's certainly possible, but it's going to be a really difficult way of doing something that we could just do anyway soon.

That's what I was thinking, honestly. I've made a lot of progress, but the more progress I make the more I realize just how huge and complex this would be with FO4Edit. Just inserting the audio by itself is a lot of work - not hard, but very tedious. With my classes and work and all that, I don't really have much time to sit down and figure out all the bits and pieces to make the mod work. I've looked at old tutorials for the FO3 and NV GECKs, and they look pretty simple to use, and much more functional than FO4Edit. So... the more I look at this, the more I'm thinking we should wait for the GECK - it will make it so much easier to actually put the mod together, and it'll probably be higher quality too. Once it comes out, I'll definitely dive in and help out some more.

Oh, one more thing: BetteCorvega, I think I've figured out how to actually put your audio in the game. I'm using Bethesda Archive Extractor and a few other tools. I'm going to give it a try and see how it goes!

Awesome kiddo95!!! I'm not sure if you are still working on getting the audio into the game at the moment or if you are now planning to wait until the GECK comes out to try messing with that as well, but I wanted to let you know that I put some less compressed versions of all the audio files in my Dropbox for you to use if you would like!

There's one folder with all of them saved in WAV format, and one folder with all of them saved as higher quality MP3s (in case the WAV files are too big):

WAV files

MP3 files

Let me know if you would like me to separate out all the pieces of dialogue into their own files and re-upload them that way, if that will make them easier to work with!

Did you find a way to generate the .lip files that are used for lipsynching too? I did look a little bit into how to do that.

Also, this might be something you already knew about, but something I noticed when I was going through the text log of all the current in game dialogue audio files is that each piece of dialogue had a facial expression animation listed with it that is supposed to "play" during that piece of dialogue. (Don't know if this is helpful but I also found this guide that has a list of all the facial expressions in the game and pictures of most of them). I'm not sure exactly how getting the right expression to show up with each piece of audio works though, or whether that's beyond what you were currently trying to do (or if it can even be done before we have the GECK). Would it be helpful for me to make a list of which these animations I sort of pictured going with each piece of dialogue?

From what you guys have said regarding FO4edit and the little bit of poking around with it that I have done, it really seems like waiting for the GECK makes the most sense at this point.

It's really cool that you've already made so much progress with FO4edit though kiddo95! If you did want to keep working with it I will totally dive in and learn how to use it as well so I can help, but with the GECK hopefully coming out in less than a month, waiting does seem like the right call.

Checking back in after all this time, really encouraging to see the same thread not only alive and kicking but thriving. The progress is pretty impressive despite not being a tangible game-product yet! Excited as hell to keep an eye on this ;)

Due to my experience with FNV geck, it was possible to assign one of default expressions to each phrase (Happy, Pained, etc) in one click :)

And, I thnk, separating all dialogue into their own files will be extremely useful, whatever way (geck or FO4Edit) mod will be done! :)

BetteCorvega, I just need to say that again, you're a Voice God *_* Thenk you for all your hard work <3

Thanks BetteCorvega! Yeah, I noticed the same in FO4Edit - there's files for each syllable of dialogue, though I can't remember exactly where. But yeah, I'm thinking waiting makes the most sense at this point. Once the GECK comes out, I'll take a look - FO4Edit can always be our backup plan.

Haha my feelings exactly! I was so thrilled (and still am) that people are replying to this thread almost every day, and really serious about making the mod. I'm super excited for the end result!

Thanks for explaining how assigning default expressions to dialogue works in the GECK, that's great!

I will go ahead and separate out all the dialogue into their own files and let you guys know when those are available!

And thank you again so much for the compliment Lee5Lee!! Reading everyone's kind words totally makes all the hard work worth it! It really kept me going anytime things got frustrating (and believe me, sometimes it did! I don't even know how many audio files I went though sometimes looking for stuff like just the right version of someone saying the word "you." But it was worth it!).

Sounds great! Hope we get another update on when the GECK is coming out soon!

Me too! I'm so glad to have found people who are serious about working on this mod, and to know that there is still a lot of excitement out there for it to happen! I suspect things may get a bit more quiet around here while we're waiting for the GECK, but as soon as it comes out, I think we're going to be able to put together something pretty great!
