I've only just now had the chance to start playing Fo4 and I am already mad about Nick Valentine. Thank you so much for digging into this project!

Same! His character grabbed me almost immediately, who doesn't love a robot detective?

I swear my heart skipped a beat when I saw this thread. And again when I heard the lines! You officially have yourself a new supporter

Haha thank you, we appreciate it! We could use all the support we can get. I'm still waiting on that geck (or construction kit or whatever they're calling it), but as soon as it's out I'm gonna go straight to work! It should be out sometime this month, according to Todd.

Hey everyone, I think the creation kit is finally out! I'm going to start working on the mod if anyone wants to join in

Hooray! I've separated out all the individual pieces of dialogue, and I'll be adding them to my dropbox soon! I'll update this post with a link to the folder as soon as I start putting those up!

I'll also go download the creation kit in case there's any way I can help you with that!

Edit:

Here is a link to the dropbox folder where I am putting all the new lines of dialogue as separate .wav files!

Everything I have so far, except for the player character lines for the last approval talk, is now in there (I'm still finalizing the male versions on those). I also put a read me in there to explain the file names.

Sounds good, Bette! This creation kit is more complicated than I expected, but I've done some poking around and I'm hearing that it's basically an extended version of the Skyrim creation kit. So I'm going to start watching tutorials for the Skyrim version - lots of people are saying they're useful for trying to learn FO4's.

Quick update: I've located the variables and actor values that make a character romanceable within the creation kit; however, looks like the place where those variables are actually used is in the scripting - they don't appear to be used anywhere in the creation kit, which only seems to list the variables themselves.

So I've been looking through different scripts. Found a lot about romance but still haven't found a script where they actually determine who is romanceable and who is not. I'm going to keep looking tomorrow. I think I've made a fair amount of progress, but I'm going to have to basically start learning papyrus. Some of it looks familiar - sort of like Python almost? Anyway, I've found some papyrus scripting tutorials and am going to start once I get my final exams out of the way.

Still, if anyone has any experience with writing/editing scripts, I would really appreciate your help.

Thanks for the update! It's too bad making a character romanceable can't be done just within the creation kit. Any luck finding a script where they determine who is romanceable yet?

I'm super impressed with how far you've already gotten though, and that you're down for learning papyrus - I do hope someone with experience dealing with scripts can pipe in. If no one does I can look into it too and try to help you out.

I've made some more progress! (I think)

Found where to edit and add dialogue within the creation kit, and where to set the conditions for that dialogue (i.e., character having a certain infatuation level, being romanceable, etc). Also I found the script that breaks down each affinity scene and I copied and modified the romance parts from Cait's onto Nick's. Hopefully that will help, though I honestly have no idea haha. A lot of this seems to be figuring out what references what and where. That seems to be the hard part. So hopefully once I finish finding where all the pieces of the mod go, it will get a lot easier.

Also, yes Bette! Please feel free to take a look at the creation kit and scripts. As I've been blundering along I've been taking down notes about where things are, which scripts are relevant, etc. If you want, I can send them to you or upload them into my google drive or something so you can take a look!
