Hey! Sorry for late reply, have just finished up the last of my god awful finals. My PC has been having some issues, so it's staying shut down till I get a chance to look at it - so I haven't had access to CK. But...! I will link to the scrolling software I've found (though I haven't gotten a chance to test it), and also a thread about the UI issues you were talking about. Some people there seem to have some suggestions.

Also, I can't thank you all enough (and especially you shadowslasher - it's nice to have an experienced modder helping out) for helping us out so much! It's amazing the amount of headway we've been making.

 

Please let me know if any of those links help! I will be focusing this weekend on moving into my apartment for the summer and fixing my PC (likely just an issue with the fan judging by the sound it's been making). Once all that's out of the way, I'll dive right back into the CK and Papyrus.

Gotta be honest here guys, I'm getting pretty excited about the progress of this :smile: It's high time Nicky Valentine gets some love too <3

Me too, I'm so happy with the progress we're making!

 

Ugh, I wish I could say the same. The Creation Kit's UI is AWFUL. The windows are way too big, the Scenes tab keeps greying out on me for some stupid reason... *headdesk*

 

I've had the same sorts of issues. Especially with the windows being too big (and not having a scroll function apparently). It's so frustrating because I'll be trying to page down to a specific thing, like the topic box for dialogue, and won't be able to reach it. It's such a stupid thing to prevent progress -.-

 

I've done some poking around on the interwebz though and I think I may have found a solution - apparently there's software you can install that will make unscrollable windows scrollable. Gonna try it out. Hopefully it will help

 

If that software works, gimme the name of it too. Between this and my other mod, Scrap Everything, making things with the CK right now is... painful.

 

 

Whoa, wait a minute - you made Scrap Everything? Kudos to you! My Sanctuary Hills wouldn't look nearly as swish as it does now without your mod, so thank you :)

 

 

First is that for the Max Approval Dialogue to Keep for the Romance Greeting part, the lines on the document are a mix of the Admiration level (the second highest level) and the Infatuation level (the highest level). This wouldn't normally be a problem, but one of the lines for the Inatuation Level is 'If it isn't my favorite icicle.' and one of the new lines to add as part of the Romance Greetings is 'Well well. If it isn't my favorite icicle.'

Currently, I deleted the first greeting (the vanilla one) and put in the new one as part of the Romance Greetings. The two are so similar that I'm wondering if I shouldn't just use the vanilla one and flag it to be romance specific... What does everyone think?

 

 

 

Well, I'm not sure how everyone else feels about this, but my thinking was, (at least for the first iteration of this mod, not to get ahead of ourselves!), that we should stick as close to the feeling of a vanilla romance as possible. It would be cool if our add-on felt seamless to the player, as if Nick was able to be romanced from the start. So I'd say go with whatever most closely matches the other romances. I don't know how BettyCorvega and Kiddo95 feel about that though :P

The Far Harbor Trailer is out and Nick is featured in it! *fangirl squee*

 

Watched that (multiple times!) and I am both excited and apprehensive about Nick's role in the DLC :/

As much as I want more content with Nick, I have to admit that this possibility frightens me :S God, I hope he's all right...

Oh, by the way shadowslasher410 and kiddo95, I am fairly competent with the CK (or at least was with Skyrim), although my Achilles' heel is scripting, which is why I couldn't be of too much use to this mod because we basically have to script a whole new romance for Valentine. But if you need someone to just do some of the monkey-work for you while you concentrate on more important things I'm happy to volunteer my spare time for such a worthy cause :) Just let me know.

Hmm... I seem to be missing the audio (and by extension the LIP files) for the Male and Female Player's Romance check in the last approval talk, the one that says, "I’m sure I can think of… something. You know… I was wondering if we could try being more than just friends?"

BetterCorvega, would you mind getting the audio for me? I think SigridStorrada or kiddo95 can do the LIP files (I can't seem to generate them, I think because I have no microphone)...

Yes, I'm also hoping for this mod to seem like it was part of the original game, as much as possible at least!

 

Speaking of which, at the time I made that “max approval dialogue to keep” list, I was only trying to look at which infatuation lines we could keep active (I didn’t actually realize I included admiration lines in that list too, oops). However, I’m pretty sure the vanilla romances continue to use some lines from all the previous levels of approval as well. I’m not sure just how many though - it doesn’t seem like the game keeps using every single one - so I was wondering if we need to make a list of which lines to keep active from all the other approval levels too?
Regarding that icicle line, there are actually a few other lines I made for the romance that are also just small tweaks of infatuation friendship lines (that’s probably the most obvious one though, since the only change I made was adding the “well, well” to try to make it sound more flirty. It's not a huge difference if you want to use the vanilla one instead). I figured we’d just keep the friendship versions of those lines active for an infatuation level friendship, and disable them in the romance (so you won’t get what are essentially two versions of the same line popping up in the romance). Do you guys think that’s too weird? If you’d rather just delete the friendship versions of those lines in the mod and make them romance specific lines, I think that’s fine, but we might want to do it on all of those lines if that's the case.

 

 

The second issue is that, unlike the vanilla romances, as it stands now we currently have two flirting opportunities (one in the FriendshipToAdmiration scene, like the vanilla romances, and a new one in the AdmirationToConfidant scene) in addition to the romance opportunity in the ConfidantToInfatuation Scene.

 

The problem here is that, in the vanilla romances, when the player is in the romance opportunity scene, the difficulty of the charisma check depends on if you succeeded in the charisma check for the flirting opportunity (if you succeeded, the romance charisma check is medium difficulty, if you failed, the romance charisma check is hard difficulty).

 

How would we want to implement this with two flirting opportunities? I'm kind of reluctant to make the difficulty easier if you succeed in both checks, but if you are allowed to fail one and still get the same difficulty of the charisma check, then why bother flirting both times?

 

And the last issue is the Infatuation Repeater Scene. Now since Nick has no romance, and this scene is a Romance Specific Scene, I'm going to have to create one. In the current Approval Diagram, the only thing we have so far for the Infatuation Repeater is "You know, I've been thinking about how things went down with Winter. I never properly thanked you for that".

 

Not only do we need more dialogue (from both nick and the player) if we want to make it similar to the vanilla romances, but the line we do have is also the first line in the ConfidantToInfatuation Scene (where the Player first gets the option to attempt a romance). This being the case, I think we shouldn't use the line for both scenes, and create a new one for the Infatuation Repeater Scene instead.

 

I've attached the Scene Flowchart thingy for MacCready's for a comparison/reference.

EDIT: Oh yeah, for the picture, where it says 'Action 3' that just basically means, 'go to the dialogue with the charisma check that initiates the romance'.

 

I think many of the vanilla romances do have two flirts, and when they do, I think it's always one in the friendship to admiration scene, and one in the admiration to confidant scene (that was why I did it that way). I just double checked Piper’s, and she has flirts in both scenes. How does the vanilla game implement the charisma check difficulty in her case? My suspicion would be that you really are allowed to fail one and get the same difficulty charisma check later on, like you suggested (in which case flirting both times is just for fun, I guess?).

 

About the Infatuation Repeater Scene though... eek!! Yes, that's a problem. I’ll get started on making some new dialogue for that, but if anyone has any ideas let me know! Thanks for including MacCready’s flow chart as a reference!

That synth at the end that looks suspiciously like a patched up version of Nick has me very concerned! I'm really excited to see Nick featured in more content though, and it would be nice to see them do something with that dropped plot thread with Kellogg!

 

shadowslasher410, I just saw your post about the missing audio, and yes, I’ve added most of the missing lines for that last approval talk to my dropbox, and I also chopped three of the longer lines into smaller pieces (based on where I thought different facial expression animations might need to go since it looks like you can only have one per line). I am still making final corrections to two lines for the male player character, but will have them up shortly!

Ah, cool! I only looked at MacCready and Hancock's lines, because the CK sometimes does this thing where if I look at one companion's scene tab and then try to go look at another companion's scene tab, the scene flowchart thing is all greyed out and I can't see anything...

I'll check out Piper's though and use hers to implement the checks correctly!

I just watched the trailer myself, moments ago, and the end had me thinking two things right off the bat: 1) Oh goodness, what have they done to my beloved Nick?! I'm very excited to progress through this story. And 2) His line at the end could be implemented into this mod (if using vanilla voice files) prettttty spectacularly...

 

You guys came to mind immediately :happy:

I just watched the trailer myself, moments ago, and the end had me thinking two things right off the bat: 1) Oh goodness, what have they done to my beloved Nick?! I'm very excited to progress through this story. And 2) His line at the end could be implemented into this mod (if using vanilla voice files) prettttty spectacularly...

Hmm... I dunno, I don't think the VO at the end was Nick... it sounded more... twangy than his voice. I also don't think dude at the end was Nick... too many things sticking out of his back... :smile:

 

EDIT: Oh yeah, that reminds me, I've got pretty much everything done except for implementing the Infatuation Repeater Scene and the two audio lines of dialogue for the Male Player in the last approval conversation that I don't have. Other than that, there's only small stuff like picking facial expressions (which I will leave to someone else... I am not a good judge of facial expressions). Then it SHOULD be done (keyword being 'should' - something always goes wrong with these types of things :tongue: ).

It's so close I can taste it!

 

I believe BetteCorvega has planned out all the expressions to use for the dialogue, so I'll let her fill you in on those.

 

I seriously can't wait until we're testing. Whooop!

 

(Also, literally the first thing I did when the CK launched was to open it up and change Nick and my relationship from nothing to 'lovers'. Because I need to game to recognise our love, even if he can't.)

This is so great to hear! I wish I could have done more. So we're close to the testing stage then? I'm super excited!
