CTD causes for Skyrim (mod related)

I don't know how to test but very curious, let's say we have mods like Falskaar, Wyrmstooth, Summerset Isle and Helgen Reborn turned on at the same time. How much strains it puts on Skyrim? Do I have potentially higher risk of CTD with all those mods turned on? Is it better to stick to one at a time and deleting it after playthrough and loading pre-modded savegame?

Those mods don't confict with each other as far as I know, and let's pretend those are the only mods (aside from SkyUI) that are used.

Well, the mod takes priority over another if down the list. They might conflict due to scripts and maybe even locations. For me, it was a matter of sorting the mods using LOOT and putting related mods together such as (Extra encounters, Extra enc. dawnguard, etc...). Also I had to delete wyrmstooth since I believe i had ctd issues with it. Helgen reborn requires you turn it on after finishing the opening quest so I personally avoided it. I don't think there is much strain with these type of mods, especially ones in new lands. You might have to take a look at the CK if interested; i'm no pro.

I always sort with LOOT (updated) and creating bashed patch so that's not an issue, and I'm aware about Helgen.

Curious statement about Wyrmstooth, how and when exactly does it cause CTD?

Some ppl say that land modes scripts are kinda "dormant" and don't get fired on their own if you're not adressing its content directly, and I'd really like to have those land modes activated in my game for all the time to be able to travel to those locations when I feel like, as I do with Solstheim, but I don't won't to have overburdened game which will crash more frequently because of this tbh...

Thanks for posting, hoping for some more info and opinions.

I run Helgen , Falskaar, Wyrmstooth & (via Legacy of the Dragonborn) Moonpaths to Elswyr.

I get the occasional CTD, but mostly that's around Whiterun so I suspect related to other mods & the graphics/npc load (improved noticeably when I gave up on uGrids 7 & went down to 5).

I've yet to explore Falskaar & Moonpaths, but have ran through Wyrsmtooth & Helgen Reborn (at uGrids 7 with my probably crappy mod setup) without any problem.

Best way to test, load up all the new land mods you'd like to have in your playthrough and see how it fares for you. It will probably go well because this

is generally correct, and you won't find any significant performance drop when using those mods together. I'd suggest cutting back a bit on textures even if you're running a good machine and even resizing heavy textures that those mods could contain. Something like Helgen Reborn is the only odd one out in your list, since it isn't actually about a new land - it modifies the vanilla Helgen area (presumably, haven't played it). It's a good bet the mod authors know what they are doing and have done as much as they can to optimise and eliminate bad edits, script errors etc.

Thing is, I have few characters, the old one I had to dump, because frequency of CTD was getting real annoying plus that character savegame was rather "dirty" since it was one of my oldest characters.

I started a new one, the mods that are active:

USLEEP

Immersive Creatures

Realistic Needs and Diseases

Immersive Armors

Immersive Weapons

Cloaks of Skyrim

Enhanced Blood

Climates of Tamriel

VioLens (KillMoves)

SkyUI

All sorted by LOOT and updated to latest version with all necessary patches and stuff. For now I get VERY rare CTDs. On old char I have finished those land modes (including Helgen, I know its a bit odd for the list) I mentioned above, so now I wonder, if I add those mods to the list, how much strain it may put on my game and could it increase CTD frequency in theory? According to what most ppl say it won't, but the only way I can test it now on my new "clean" character is to enable them all and play-play-play... If I'd be getting more CTDs I'd have to load pre-land modded save and do without them, that's gonna be tedious...

I know that modders definitely know what they doing, but Skyrim engine is very sketchy and unstable, you never know where you may run into incompatibility or conflict, no human being can consider all possibilities. Still, better to see more opninions from those who have those mods on I guess.

LOOT is the way to go. Also if Skyrim has "to many" graphics going on at the same time it can get sluggish, but it don't CTD ... CTD is when it hits an error it can't get past.

If you're sure the mods are not conflicting and are in the correct order then you must have a bad save going.

Had Falskaar, Wyrmstooth and Helgen Reborn (using Alternate start mod) and all official DLC's permanently in my long modlist basically since they were released, never noticed any problems with them and my crashes are very rare. Summerset caused me some problems like badly lagging perk menu and save size noticeable rise after installing it, I know mods make it bigger, but shouldn't be so bad, specially comparing it with Falskaar and Wyrmstooth.

Older Wyrmstooth versions had more quests on Skyrim mainland, so if some other mod affected same area, sure, it could cause potential problems, but now those first quests are changed.

But I still see many people with fairly long modlists and texture mods not using SKSE memory patch (even if they use SKSE) and enboost. Those two are nowdays basically must be for running modded games.

It's also good to learn tes5edit basics and check some mod conflicts yourself and you can make patches, what are unique for your setup.

Those mods you mentioned sound good, but ... well, it just seems like they could be made better by the addition of Vilja, Inigo and INPCs.

Hey, nonoodles! What you said was great. Even if you don't want to run one of the ENBs (perhaps you like a clear view in both the foreground and the background) enboost will help your game with stability and smoothness. Sort of like what happens to us when we eat chocolate - the world just seems better somehow.
