JarinArenos
How difficult would it be to have a way to "break down" a weapon into its component upgrade parts rather than random scrap? Like breaking down a basic 10mm would get you standard receiver, basic sights and basic grip. It seems a really weird oversight that this isn't in the base game. Is this feasible without the mod toolkit coming next year?

Is this feasible without the mod toolkit coming next year? I've actually made a post with that very same idea a few days ago, so you can consider me as a +1 to this as well!I mean, is it that weird to imagine someone just disassembling a weapon or just taking the scope out from a sniper to put into another sniper? Could be possible to simply take a part of a weapon and just leave an unusable and incomplete weapon in the inventory as well, or, and this one I'm sure the GECK would be needed, to create a new weapon from the collective of mods that make it (like, get a standard receiver, basic sight and basic grip to create a 10mm pistol). That'd be interesting as it could enable the creation of a mods-only store.
firsTraveler
Yes. not as a replacement but as an addition.
DeMocha
+1 As an addition tho. Its extremely tedious to go through each weapon 1 by 1 to disassemble the good parts from it. And on that note an option to 'store all mods' would be good too.
JarinArenos
Yeah, as an addition. Ideally, it should be something like pushing the scrap button, then having another window pop up for the Scrap/Disassemble choice. Well, with F4SE coming along, maybe we can see this soon... Itsh
In my opinion there are two ways to do this. First, a button to convert the weapon into the mods it's made of. The negative side of it, you lose a weapon, because you can't combine mods into 2 one functional weapon yet (I don't know how difficult this would be). This shouldn't be that hard but I think it's not possible yet. Second some sort of "unfinished" weapon state. Imagine a "none" option like the gun muzzle for every modding slot exept the receiver make it the important key part with the weapon id . If any vital slot (like grip, or magazin) is missing, the weapon is "unfinished" and can't be equiped. I have know idea if, or how you can make something like this work, but I suppose it's not possibel until the G.E.C.K release. Some mod I found to take the good mods without having to craft the standarts to replace them. It removes the "cost" to build them. Maybe it's good for nowhttp://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2073/? Crazyloon206
I assume everyone posting knows that there is currently a perk that allows you recover more parts from the guns you break down. In honor of that perk, I would just suggest while doing something similar to what has been suggested, this perk is replaced/enhanced to provide something similar to these options: lvl 1: recover some basic parts; original item is lostlvl 2: recover more basic parts, and some rare parts; original item is lostlvl 3: recover some item mods, other are destroyed into basic and rare parts; original item is lostlvl 4: recover all modifications from items, and retain the original item

We can *already* do 75% of what I'm asking for, with no skill whatsoever, just paying the resources for the "baseline" components for any given weapon, modding it back to its lowest level. The upgraded mods that were in place can be directly attached to any other weapon; again without needing any skills. I just want to do this without having to have a functional basic weapon left over at the end. Skills are only needed for crafting new modules from scratch. Anyone can learn to disassemble and reassemble existing components with minimal effort.
