BridgetFisher
Posted a mod for Fallout 4 with christmas music and it was removed saying it used assets from other members maybe or was it music, Im not sure? The music is fair use though under the copyright law so how is it a problem? A similar mod with less music exists here with some of the same songs: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/1237 How was mine different except it had more songs? Im new so I dont know how one is there but mine cant be there I guess? There wasnt any assets from other members because its just audio? Hmmm was it the picture used? Because got permission via email to use that picture for the mod? Edited November 24, 2015 by BridgetFisher
Lisnpuppy
Discussing moderation in the open forum is not permitted. You need to contact the moderator that removed your mod. If you do not know who that is then contact the community manager Sirsalami or any moderator who can answer the question or get you to the person that knows the answer. Good luck. JimboUK
The mod you linked to is gone, infringing mods stay there until the staff are made aware, they were obviously made aware of yours first so that was the first one to go. On fair use, I cannot see where fair use can apply to music put into a game, it's not for research, education, review, reporting and nor will its inclusion be incidental. This is a UK site so this is relevant, it explains fair use (fair dealing) https://www.copyrightservice.co.uk/copyright/p27_work_of_others
BridgetFisher
Thanks for the link, sounds like we need a law degree to understand this stuff. So were thinking its more a copyright thing maybe that got it taken down? Much of the music is so old, going by copyright though, if I got these all from youtube where their not taken down. Like this guys channel for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyEYx3exDxs he doesnt seem to own the rights and on the same hand he hasnt had his account shut down for violation of terms. Since im no Lawyer gonna try and see if can message him to see how he is allowed to post those on youtube, because he has a lot and knows their history so maybe that might help figure it out? His channel has over 10 million views and no action from youtube so we must be applying it wrong or missing something there in how its being applied here? BridgetFisher
Doing some research and from feedback from some people who def seem to know about this copyright stuff. It seems that sites like Youtube have wide ranging agreements which can cover the copyrights of many labels. Unfortunately also due to the age of this music though alot of it may be actual "free use", thats actually to much work for me to track down and figure out. Also due to age copyrights can expire or can exist but there is no actual "holder" if that makes sense. wow legal stuff is straight up cray cray! thanks for the feedback all! Youtube uses a content ID system, rights holders tell Youtube what they want done when that system picks up something that belongs to them, usually they claim the ad money from that video and it's left up, but sometimes it's blocked in certain countries or the audio muted or the video is removed completely. bben46
Not always, Sometimes they do sue. http://www.theverge.com/2014/7/21/5924405/youtube-star-michelle-phan-sued-copyright-infringement Technically everything uploaded to youtube is copyrighted by youtube. Even if you upload something that is public domain, the copy that is from Youtube is copyrighted by them. Classical musinc from the 1700s and 1800s is all public domain. But if a piece is performed by a modern symphony orchestra, that version is copyrighted by the orchestra or their designated representative. There are sites where you can find real public domain music - but you have to wade through several pages of sites that claim FREE MUSIC - that want you to sign up to their service and see their ads, then what you end up with is mostly popular stuff that is NOT legitimately free. These sites are periodically shut down, but reopen with a new name immediately.
