SoDak1953 Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Anyone else having trouble with Dogmeat always getting in the way while you are walking or shooting? :geek:I hate to tell you the number of times I've shot Dogmeat while using a scope. Why didn't they implement the same type of control as used in FO3 and NV where you could change the parameters of close in, farther away, and etc. Dogmeat is invaluable but is driving me crazy........................... Any modders out there have a fix?
thestigma Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Needs an overhaul to be sure - but a lot of it is down to how awkward the companion interactions are. What I find most missing above all is a dedicated button to "select" your follower. having to turn around to select them to tell them to move somewhere or attack someone makes it way to cumbersome to work in practice. Another oversimplification that got left over from having such a console-centric control scheme no doubt. -Stigma
jet4571 Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 I have found all NPC's will walk right infront of you just as you are firing except for NPC's you want to shoot and they magically sidestep out of the way. Dogmeat has a different follow system, he runs infront of the player and will often go ahead where you are looking, so he is quite annoying when he blocks stairs and doorways.
CaptainPatch Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 This seems to be a feature of nearly all of Bethesda's RPG games where the player character has a Follower tagging along. It seems that the Followers are content to follow until you halt in place anywhere; then it seems that they feel obligated to place themselves between you and any potential threat. VERY annoying when I'm drawing a bead on some sniping target, waiting for the ideal shot to present itself -- when suddenly the scope sight picture is obstructed by the Follower choosing just then to take up his guard position directly in front of you. I found that the best solution is to Command the Follower to Go to some position off to the side. When he takes up that position, he will stay put until you start moving around again.
MioneRCP Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 I Never noticed how annoying that could be, at first when he started doing it I Thought it was funny because he'd whine and behavior general like a normal dog. However it did get more irritating in the long run. But I haven't had it as bad as you guys seem to be having it.

("Follower" doesn't seem appropriate, given how often they get in the way.)
JimboUK Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 He got me killed, I was popping out of cover, taking a few shots and then popping back, only he got behind me and get couldn't back in again.
Merovign Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 Yeah I love the concept but he is *shockingly* in the way - in hallways, doorways, and especially when I'm sniping. I have to go somewhere he can't or tell him to move, and that's hardly practical. Maybe a year from now there will be a mod to give him detailed behaviors, like some in Skyrim, or to make him invulnerable to PC damage and non-clipping to the PC.
DragosDrakkar Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 This seems to be a common thing throughout all of the Bethesda games I've played, as well as just about any game with "friendly" NPCs: they seem to like blocking your attacks on the enemy and get angry at you for it.
Raycheetah Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 "Move it" mods already exist for othr Bethesda games, and many of the newer, more sophisticated custom follower mods incorporate AI to directly counter the effect. It'll come for FO4, guaranteed... Especially given that bubbleheaded death machine, Codsworth. =^[.]^=
