randydg
I have an idea for a mod where the player finds vault 131.Inside of vault 131 is a labratory of vault-tech scientist who worked on an a modified version of the geck.( refer to fallout 3 in vault 87 - http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Vault_87 ) As you walk around you can see the bodies of dead scientists due to running out of food/supplies over 100 years ago. ( giving them 160 years to work on the project and limited reproducing aka kids.)You find a robot ( mr handy or another type ) that tells you about the geck that was a failure due to the fact it could only affect a small area. Interested in it, you find out where it's at in this vault. The robot tells you. You go through the intact vault since the door has never been open until you hack into it via pip-boy. You find it and you take it and the robot tells you it wants to come with you, it can help you use the geck. you can agree or say no. either way you can use the device at any settlement. It will turn the ground green as in grass in any settlement you own. What do you think? Good idea or bad idea?

3st90
Awesome idea! Sounds like part of a pretty good DLC.
randydg
I also want to think about having the player find a machine shop. like an old company that used to build houses pre-war and getting parts and fixing the machine using generator etc..and able to over time with the help of your settlers and such slowly rebuildng the houses in Sanctuary and other location settlements that have houses there. kinda of like level 1 would be foundationlevel 2 would be the shell of a house and level 3 would be the complete pre-war type house with no furnature or anything just add those normally. each level would be complete over time. TeamBacon
Not to rain on your parade or anything... but... there are only 122 Vaults. But I do like the idea.

Danneyo
I'm not really a huge fan of this. It just seems, well, kind of generic? It also goes against what the GECK is, which takes all the matter in the area and recombines it, meaning that the actual effect wouldn't just be green ground, but the destruction of the entire settlement. I'm sure you could Game Logic yourself out of it, but it's a point to mention. As an alternative, i'd like to suggest you go check out the original plans for Fallout: Tactics 2, which was to take place in Florida, where a GECK was affected by radiation and transformed the environment into a crazy mutated jungle swampland. That seems a lot cooler.
randydg
Show me proof that a geck has ever destroyed anything... that is not what a geck does.
Danneyo
"The G.E.C.K. will collapse all matter within its given radius and recombine it to form a living, breathing, fertile virgin landscape and allow life to begin anew. " "In Fallout 3, it is possible for the Lone Wanderer to reach the GECK instead of allowing Fawkes to retrieve it, thus allowing the player to activate it. If activated on its own, a blue energy ball expands around the GECK killing the player's character and, after a burst of white light, the nearest save game is loaded." http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Garden_of_Eden_Creation_Kit
randydg
ok, but that is the original geck. there could be other forms of gecks.
