Killerdoom14
Hi :) I recently got Fallout 4 and it updated, effictively ruining all my mods. apparently when you start the game it disables all ESPs.... Not cool.. Id love to move it off steam so it does not update, but im not sure how. Can someone explain to me if this can be done? If I move it will it mess up NMM and its file location or be unable to update at all in the future? This is really bothering me :(

Lisnpuppy
It only disabled them. If you would read the forum any at all you would find about 900 threads on how to easily fix this problem. The game has to have Steam. You can run it offline but as soon as you go online it will update. Mods that are updates to a version will not work on an old version. Mods will not likely work on an alternate location of the game and when you load the game it looks for Steam. You will be making more and longer problems for yourself in the long run and likely no one here will help you. The reason being is basically what you want to know may be what a pirate would want to know also (and I am not saying you are one) and that stuff doesn't fly here. So just go get the fix. Modding a game is not for the faint of heart. It requires some effort on the players part but is well worth the invested time.
LethalThreat
There's no way to avoid game updates, they're kind of mandatory via Steam and there's no way to "take the game off Steam." The only alternative is to always keep Steam offline when you know there's an update and the second you turn it back on it'll start to update. The main reasoning behind this is to prevent people from pirating. Luckily, the modding community is always quick to address and resolve issues - there have already been multiple workarounds found to combat this. Just search it up either on Google or here on the Nexus, you'll always find something.

You can give a man a fish and he eats for a day, or you can tell him how to avoid an update in the future so you can avoid giving out a fish every time. Edit: I dont think a Pirate would want to know how to avoid steam, as if they pirated they would already have it without the DRM. Im reletively new to modding, I would assume if they make a whole new patch that changes.... lets say the way enemies path find would there even be a fix for that? I mean sure the modders could change there mods meaning I have to avoid the game for weeks waiting, but id much rather just be able to roll back or avoid steam all together. Well when we get the Creation Kit these updates typically won't cause any conflicts. The only reason it's causing issues now is mostly because we've gone on our own initiative to create and play with mods rather than waiting for the actual modding tools and such, in other words Fallout 4 doesn't have official mod support yet. It's a bit hard to explain, but rest assured when we actually get the Creation Kit there won't be any issues like this and all further updates will be made mod-friendly and Fallout 4 will begin to support mods. To continue on avoiding Steam and such, there's just no way especially with Fallout 4 and there's no way to go back to a previous version. This is just to prevent pirating and make life hard for any pirates. But yeah, don't worry everything will be in much better standing when we get the Creation Kit, for now we all just have to deal with this, until the next update or someone creates a fix. EDIT: NMM 0.61.3 fixes the issue. Edited December 8, 2015 by LethalThreat

Deleted3507349User
Actually, if you fire up Steam's Big Picture Mode there *is* a no update option. For some reason it doesn't show up in the regular desktop client. I'm using that and it hasn't updated. 1.2 is exactly the same as the beta anyway, afaik. I also use the F4SE launcher, so no mod silliness there either. Edited December 9, 2015 by digitaltrucker
