oldspice2625
The Sniper Barrel is really really good, and doesn't really affect the recoil/fire rate that much and the ammo dropped is insignificant really. The automatic barrel on Energy Weapons should never be taken, IMHO, as ammo is SO expensive and scarce, later on in the game maybe it's better, but it's such a waste. improved Gamma Capacitor or Overcharged Capacitor is great, and I tossed on reflex sights, since I use the laser musket as a sniper. Beam splitter seems kind of "meh". It's okay, but I think throwing a sniper barrel on it would do some good for its killing power. I really think it was a cop out and cheap for them to make a few weapons, and make them modded, essentially a plasma/laser pistol is a plasma/laser rifle, just with the kind of parts you put on it... that seems really stupid, they should all be their own items/weapons... oldspice2625
Interesting observations. I've seen how the new additions can be a blessing in their own way, but I still like NV's systems better, I guess it'll just have to grow on me. I was thinking about suppressors. I have to read up on how damage and perks stack and work to see what the maximum capabilities are. I might just have to start peeking about with the modding tools to see what they are about. Moraelin
Ok, I got off my butt, and made you a mod that restores the old style criticals based on luck, even outside VATS: Old Style Criticals 'Cause, you know, I may be an a-hole and proud of it, like Dennis Leary, but I'm a helpful a-hole. Kinda like Carrington ;)
SayinNuthin
'Cause, you know, I may be an a-hole and proud of it, like Dennis Leary, but I'm a helpful a-hole. Kinda like Carrington  Moraelin Your not an ass, you are a star! I've haven't left home without one of your pole-arms since Fo3, I wasn't going to pester you but just hope we'd see some your classy weapons sets before too long... in your own time, no pressure from me.. oldspice2625
Nah man, you're not an ass. You have a lot of good ideas/opinions. I've learned a lot from reading your interactions with others. I've gotten used to the new system, but I'll for sure take a lookey-loo, and give that a go. I thought I could play a laser based character since those weapons had a higher crit rate than other guns, but, alas, this is no NV. What's your opinion on automatic receivers on guns? Should I just use semi-auto and not take a penalty to my damage, or is automatic on a combat rifle/assault rifle (they feel the same to me... too many weapons feel... the same to me) a good idea? Moraelin
Well, both are viable, but it depends on the perks and on any legendaries you find, if any. Now it's not some fact set in stone, but I feel that's really where automatics shine: putting a lot of legendary bullets into someone. When you find a weapon with Explosive, well, it helps more if you can put 10 of those explosive bullets into someone in a second, than if you put two in a second. There are some exceptions, though, like stagger. That legendary effect triggers only 5% of the time for automatics, but with a non-repeating shotgun, pretty much you'll have two staggering pellets for each trigger squeeze. And both have their own end weapon. Non-automatic rifles have the gauss rifle, which can deliver a whole can of whoopass in one go, while automatic and heavy builds have for example the Gatling Laser. With the "charging" barrels, it still shoots long bursts in VATS, so you can just hit VATS and pwn just about any boss with extreme prejudice. Both have their pros and cons, I guess. That's what game balance is about, in the end.
Moraelin
Alright... now about crits and laser weapons. There are actually two ways off the top of my head. 1. The easy way: player.addperk 61676 That will make you crit 25% of the shots, without needing any other mods or changes. So you're done. And you can pretend it's because of your luck, perks and pimped-out laser rifle. I.e., role-play it, so to speak. 2. The right way: Open FO4Edit. Right click on that list, "Select None." Now check only Fallout4.esm and let it load. Find the laser weapon under weapons in the tree on the left side. Right-click it, choose to copy as an OVERRIDE. New file. Give your new mod a name. (Say, OldSpiceLaserFix.) Now the right side panel will look all green and will have two columns. The left side are the original values, the right side is where you edit stuff. Scroll down until you see the crit % multiplier. Set it to something like 2x. Save, exit, activate the mod. Congrats, you just made your first FO4Edit mod. Muahahahahaha! Now you have the power of the very gods themselves: the power of creation! *Ahem* Of course, you still need my mod to activate the crits, but lasers crit more. TheOriginalEvilD
What...the...hell? So, basically, the whole idea of a critical hit being determined by Luck and other factors as a random thing is.... now a controllable element in combat? I thought that meter thing from some videos I saw was for critical banker. If this is true, then when you get a sneak critical, do your other regular, non sneak critical related perks/bonuses also activate, or you need to be in VATS to stack critical dmg/bonuses? if so, that's really stupid. I really don't like using VATS because of how much PER you need as well as perk investment to make it worth a damn other than a desperation thing when someone is super close... Yup. Crits is shits. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Critical_Hit#Fallout_4 Fallout 4's critical hit system removes the chance-based critical hit trigger, replacing it with a critical meter which builds up with each successful V.A.T.S. hit and, when filled, can then be triggered by the player just before any V.A.T.S. attack, guaranteeing a hit with extra damage. The rate that the critical meter fills increases with the character's Luck. Outside of V.A.T.S. critical hits can still randomly happen.[needs confirmation] Some chems such as Overdrive can increase critical hit chance by 25%.I don't think I've seen crits outside of VATS (needs confirmation), but I play mostly sniper anyway... so I guess my crits insta-kill things so I can't compare health bars. If crits CAN happen outside of VATs, their chance is extremely low. I invested quite a few points into Luck when I made my character (hearing Luck meant crits), so I assume I'd crit quite a lot... But I don't seem to. 'Cause RNG crits is hard, gotta dumb it down some more. Also, WHY THE HELL do so many of the sniper attachments give crit boost? By the time you're close enough to reliably hit in VATs, you should be using another weapon. ... and don't get me started on collateral in VATs. I used to think I could get away with aiming at a small part on an enemy if that part was surrounded by MORE enemy. Logic being if I missed (but the animation showed the weapon still hitting) I'd still do some damage. Hah. Nope. It just goes straight through and does no damage. I crit all the time outside VATS. You have to look for the message to pop up on the left side of the screen. Just about any time I one shot something when sniping, it's usually a crit. It is pretty stupid that you have complete control over when you crit if you use VATS but you don't when outside VATS. It's two completely different mechanics.
