Building Good foundations for settlements....

Hey, I was wondering if you guys found out a good way to make realistic, non crappy looking foundations for settlement structures that look realistic and not hovering above the ground.

I don't think that you can stack the foundations on top of each other, unless you use something like Shack Staircase or something like that. I'm getting frustrated that certain objects like walls can't clip a little bit into houses that are already there, and placing things is a real nightmare to get things to stick to things when there is no logical reason why they should not....

Just wondering, since it seems that a lot of settlements, and the crappy way the broken half-baked raiding system works, that it makes no sense to make a horizontal based settlement (since they just spawn inside), I favor building elevated settlements. I just wanted a way to attach foundations to the bottoms of things like the prefab shacks and things so it doesn't look totally stupid and physically impossible. I wish they added something to snap to the bottom of the foundations, like just a concrete block or a set of wooden stands that come with the wooden foundation, that can partially clip into the ground, like the foundations do, without the tops to the foundations.... unless there is something like that and I just haven't seen it yet.

Actually, I think you can stack at the very least the concrete foundations.

Well, personally I'm probably not the best one to ask, since my settlements are a bit *ahem* SPARTAN. (No, really, I even have a big hole to kick any Persian emissaries into;)) As long as those guys have somewhere to sleep, preferably where it doesn't rain on them, some place to sit and listen to the radio, and a bartender nearby when I can afford it, I'm not very fussed about looks or recreating a pre-war village.

I like stuff not to hover, but it doesn't have to be mile-high either. It just has to be horizontal and a bit off the ground, so I can imagine that water streaming down the hill in a rain doesn't take a shortcut through the bedroom. And the foundation on wooden beams is relatively believable for me.

In any case, I would recommend having a look at the mods, since the way it sounds, some of your problem have long been solved. E.g., letting stuff clip just a little is already in at least one mod.

Plus, if you care about realistic structures, there's a lot to be said about walls that don't let the wind through, or balcony floors where realistically you won't slip through and break an ankle. And, again, there are mods for that.
