pinzig
Not sure if this has been listed elsewhere, but why can't we have a structure in our settlement that serves as a bunker/shelter from rad storms? It would provide a place for you or your settlers to seek shelter from those devastating storms...It is very frustrating to have built a whole wasteland fortress but a storm blows through and nothing you built makes a lick of difference. Athanasa
The rain sound also doesn't change in player-built stuff, either. Or stop the rain half the time. It'd be nice to have a mod that recognises when you're indoors and stops SOME of the rad-storm irradiation. It'd make mods that make rad-storms more deadly actually viable if you could shelter from them in buildings. Do Settlers go inside anyway during Rad Storms? Valykry
Well, if we go with "Reality", most of the materials used in settlement making aren't capable of stopping radiation. Which is possibly the reason/excuse given as to why your settlements shelters make no difference to rad storms. From a programmers point of view, it may be difficult to make something like this that works in a way that makes sense. The simplest solution may be just to make an object that creates a "bubble" that while inside of it, it boosts your rad resistance as though you were wearing rad resistant clothing. As for your settlers, I don't believe it really makes a difference. I don't believe that they can actually die, unless YOU are the one killing them.A deathclaw could raid your settlement, and like your companions, they will fall down, but they won't die.Radiation likely has about the same effect on them. and @AthanasaI believe the roof objects DO stop the rain. If the object above your head is technically a floor object, it doesn't. At least as far as I can tell. The stuff you build settlements from are pretty terrible. Although, I like to believe that some of the radiation damage is from radioactive rain on your skin (like swimming in really radioactive water) rather than the atmosphere itself. But coding that would be a nightmare, as you said. I believe the roof objects DO stop the rain. If the object above your head is technically a floor object, it doesn't. At least as far as I can tell.Hooray for arbitrary definitions of 'waterproof'.

A tin or wooden roof wouldn't stop that radiation discharge.

A tin or wooden roof wouldn't stop that radiation discharge. Oh, the existing rad-storms have it spike with the lightning. I was thinking in terms of mods making the storms deadlier, maybe doing constant health / radiation damage over time until you find shelter. In that situation, it might make sense to blame it on the (acid?) rain, which would then allow you to make it so that taking shelter from the rain keeps you safe from most of the damage in a believable, immersive way. r4y30n
What about making those Pulowski shelters actually work? And maybe allow waiting once inside. Then you could add them to the settlement build list and you'd be set.

Then you could add them to the settlement build list and you'd be set. That could work. Also, perhaps, concrete bunker with air filtration system (would require science perk to build, and power from generator I think) I see no reason we can't build more than shack foundations in concrete. Perhaps use lead in the construction to lead line walls?
eldiabs
Just go to sleep for an hour or two in your 'radiation' shelter of choice. Immersive.
dmitryyk
In sanctuary there actually is a shelter you could use, the one behind the one of the houses.
