HVD
Hey guys, I just signed up as a supporter on TESSource. However, my download speeds are still really slow, on the order of 5-10kBps I was wondering if there were any network issues at the moment that might be slowing things down. Or is there some other step I need to take to get the "Uber fast connection" since at the moment I haven't noticed much of an increase in download speed. Thanks in advance for the help. Dark0ne
Checking now... Server load was a bit high. I've restarted a few services and the load has gone down. Can you try downloading now and seeing if your rates have improved? I'm downloading at 250kb/sec at the moment, which is ok for my connection and considering the server is in Texas. I'll try again in about 10 minutes time, right after my current download completes. I'm hesitant to stop it since you don't seem to currently support download resumption. Just as an aside, is there a reason why resuming downloads is currently unsupported, and are there any plans to add this feature in the future? PS - thanks for the swift response
Dark0ne
The site is coded in such a way that you cannot access files on the file servers without going through the site. This stops sites that might leech bandwidth by directly linking to the file rather than the site. Similarly I've coded the site to not allow people with download "accelerators" (programs that open multiple threads, normally 8, to download through) since they are BAD for servers. Plenty of reading available on the internet if you want to know more about why they are bad. As a result resumption won't work either.

I'm trying another download, and I'm still only getting ~10k down
HVD
Update: If I try to download more than 1 file simultaneously, I get ~5-10K per download, but then some of them will suddenly fall down to 0kBps for a while before picking up again. So maybe it's limited per thread rather than overall?
Dark0ne
Hi again, I've just tested the server from multiple locations around the UK and each location gives download speeds between 150kb - 500kb/sec. Can confirm the server isn't burdened at all. I know it sounds silly, but you are actually logged in with your Supporter account (HVD) and downloading large files, correct? You'll know you're downloading from the Supporter server since it's location will show as http://supporter.gamingsource.net/...

Dark0ne
I doubt it because the downloads are also around 10 kbs for me, they even break up sometimes of all sudden. You're not a Supporter so have to share your connection with 300 odd other simultaneous downloaders. I don't have $2000/month to buy a 100mbit connection to support them fully.
