charwo
I'm wondering if any of you know where I can find and/or upload quality Fallout fanfiction. I know there's FF.net, but not if there's others. I've complained LONG and HARD about the quality of Bethesda's Fallout endeavors and so I figure I'd give my hand a go at trying to make it into something I'd like, and I got some chapters which I don't think at too too horrible. Gives me something to hone my writing on.Any leads are appreciated.
Boombro
Well, did try fanfiction.net
DoctorKaizeld
i recommend what Boombro said. though just a helpful recommendation read this guys Fanfic: https://www.fanfiction.net/u/2786511/ he hasnt updated in a while but that's because he's busy with his fancy new promotion. i am only recommending him as people who write FO fanfic have a tendency to write the cannon characters wrong and he does not do that. (note: no this is not a shameless plug for myself, my fanfic account is listed in my signature.)
charwo
Ok, I'm glad for that recommendation, but in all seriousness, how do you write characters this fundamentally shallow (we're talking Fallout 3), wrong? And even when we have robustly designed characters like Joshua Graham, I appreciated both the brutal, cold Honest Hearts version and the much more nuanced and conflicted interpretation of him in Honest Hearts Reborn (which is worth at least one playthrough BTW.). I ask because Brisa Almodovar is a character I'm putting in, and there's not a lot of personality to her. My take may seem wrong, but think I have the latitude to play her as prissy and fearful by wasteland standards, simply because I think you're average Vault Dweller isn't going to be happy without reliable indoor plumbing and warm showers. These kinds of things I'd think would undermine most people, like or or not. Besides, I'm specifically ignoring all the SCIENCE! bullcrap and making the Wasteland as green as the Chernobyl Exclusion zone, as it would actually be. A lush, lawless, irradiated hell. It's a fanfic designed to showcase bits and pieces of a lot of mods, so capital L Lore is something to be played with.
DoctorKaizeld
Ok, I'm glad for that recommendation, but in all seriousness, how do you write characters this fundamentally shallow (we're talking Fallout 3), wrong?it's actually pretty easy. the characters in FO3 are shallow but they have a personality none the less. many people like to change characters though and it ruins the suspension of disbelief. for example writing Sarah Lyons you should write her as though she is a soldier but people who are writing her as a love interest have a tendency to write her like stereotypical girl and that breaks the story. that is why i like ThunderFetts work because he is working with shallow characters but is remembering to keep them the way they are supposed to while adding more depth to them. if you want to look at something that has characters that are wholly original that are well made (to a degree) try my Fanfic... i havent updated in some time though do to issues in my life that are preventing me from doing so. but think I have the latitude to play her as prissy and fearful by wasteland standardsfearful is a good choice, but prissy? i see that a lot and people tend to over do it. so my recommendation for that is instead go for more of a clean freak type, someone who isnt used to not being able to shower but does whine like a child when they cant instead they are just uncomfortable and self conscious of it. Besides, I'm specifically ignoring all the SCIENCE! bullcrap and making the Wasteland as green as the Chernobyl Exclusion zone, as it would actually bebut science can be fun to work with. of course people tend to often over do it (such as their vault dweller is the Bill Gates of the wasteland... oh my god that would be a fun fanfic at least a short story that is.) or they under do it by simply not mentioning it. try to go for the more balanced style with technology being around but rare and hard to find in working condition. Berathe
Try Archive of Our Own This takes you to videogames fiction; http://archiveofourown.org/media/Video%20Games/fandoms as per usual, not necessarily quality stuff but it's a resource. Also the site is easy to navigate and find stuff Edited January 4, 2016 by Berathe
coldarra
When it comes to fanfic I get mine from Archive of Our Own (tags are easy to use), various tumblr posts directly from writers, or the fallout kink meme and the pinboard archive for already filled prompts (http://falloutkinkmeme.livejournal.com). But it takes time to find quality stuff that suits your tastes.
